I am looking at purchasing a 04-06 automatic if I can't find me a BMW 355d remotely close to me. I have some money to spend on it but want it to be a reliable DD. What can these automatics take? I am specifically looking at the 04 ALH or 06 BRM and lastly a 05 Passat. Also tell me what you would do for a list of mods (i.e. which turbo, injectors, tuner and if need be cam, rods, head) I love the 06 body style but like the idea of the ALH mechanical injection since I am used to working with 12v cummins and the 05 passat because it is larger and has a bigger engine. I will be respectful of any opinions. Thanks!

I may go with a CR but didn't they stop putting the soft touch dash in the 2.0 jetta's? The VW dealer told me the other day they are going to bring that back to the jetta soon.

There is no such thing as an 04 ALH.

All ALH engines got bolted to the crapolla 01M which can't even handle stock power. Those ended in 03.

04 is BEW which got bolted to the Jatco 09A. Much better transmission.

ALH is not mechanical, its still mostly electronic.

Thanks, are all 04-06 the DSG transmissions? and may I ask why you have a current-base-emitter transistor as your avatar? How do the new CR transmissions hold up?
