Working on a 03 tdi automatic and it won't stay running. If you keep your foot on the throttle it will run but as soon as you let off it dies. Scanned with VCDS and came up with these codes. Any ideas?

I had that engine code get thrown when my pump was timed really retarded after changing the pump. Check the ESS wires and where it goes into the engine for any damage, it's on the front of the engine kind of below your injection pump harness

Checked all wiring and installed new sensor still no start. Ohmed wires to ecu and all checks out.

How can I test the ecu to see if it's faulty?

So I think the pump is bad. If I clear all the codes and then start the car and keep my foot on the accelerator to keep it running no codes pop up and the check engine light stays off. You can hear the sound of the engine jump around and as soon as you let of the pedal the engine stalls and the engine speed sensor code comes back. I'm going to put a inline pump in front of the injection pump to pressurize the injection pump and see if that does anything

Update for anyone searching and finds this thread. The pump was not bad. Turns out someone dropped a small torx bolt 5mm thread into the oil pan (maybe when they replaced the rear main seal) and it got wedged between the crank sensor and the crank ring. It put a scratch and dent in the crank ring. I was able to bend it back somewhat straight and then weld the scratch and the rest of the dent then sand it to the original shape. Car runs perfect now. Beats pulling the crank to replace the ring. Hope this helps.

Pulled the sensor and looked in the hole while turning the motor over. After a friend came over and was looking at it with me we thought of looking in the hole
