03 TDI 5 sp Trans

A few days ago it seemed like I would hear a thunk when I slowed down to stop. Just yesterday I was unable to shift to 2nd when moving and to any gears, hearing a high grinding sound. When I manipulate the transaxel shifter linkage and the gear shift it seems to go into gear but when I start it and try to move it grinds and does not shift into any gears. Any ideas?

Sounds like your clutch is not dissengaging from the flywheel. This is why it grinds when you attempt to go into any gear. There is no disconnect from the engine to the transmission input shaft.

Does the clutch pedel feel normal? Should become more stiff as you push then about 2" from the floor it hits a roll over point and goes soft.

Will it go into all gears if the car is off?

I do not notice if the clutch is different than before. It does seem soft now about 2 " off the floor. Will not go into gear when off.

When it's in neutral do you have a lot of play in shifter going from side to side?

Do you think it's excessive?
I just replace this bushing yesterday & as I was having getting it into to reverse & 1st & 2nd gears

If you remove the boot you can take a look in & see how bad that bushing is
