Alright, so I'm looking for a little bit of advice/recommendations on this one. I have a 2002 MK4 5spd TDI Golf. I went pretty fast in reverse one time about two months ago now and pretty much destroyed the gear. I make do with it, but it can't get up the slightest incline without popping out and the noises it makes back up on no incline are far from pleasant. Fast forward to this week, and my 5th gear synchro went out. It's been a long time goal of mine to AWD swap this one day (R32 rear end) and while I don't have the funds or time for that at the moment... if I'm already replacing the trans, I'd like to be at least one step closer. So my thought process is, I'll take an 02M from an Audi TT, slap it in, leave the transfer case for the rear axle unconnected, and down the line that's just one less step I have to worry about. Now the only issue is getting the gearing from a TDI into the AWD 02M. I've read here about @Whitbread doing this swap, but he seems to have been inactive for over 2 years now, so I thought I'd post to see, has anyone else done this (or sent to a shop, or know of a shop that offers this), and what is a rough cost estimate for this and is it even worth it? Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

And.... the more I think about this, if someone wants to point me in the right direction of sourcing a FWD TDI 02m... that may be a significantly more cost efficient solution.
