    Replace Expansion Valve??

So I am replacing the RCV valve on the compressor and have been told that I should replace the drier as well, which makes sense. Is there a reason to replace the expansion valve as well at this point?

    Flushing out the oil pan?

Is there something one can pour into the filter housing to flush out any build up that has accumulated in the pan and push out the drain hole? Sort of like a rinse. I want to say I read somewhere that they used diesel fuel for this? Or is it just a bad idea overall

What did you do to your MKIV today?

Oil change after learning something new Wanted to point out something I recently came across. I've been doing the oil change on my MKIV for the last 5 yrs or so the typical way, drain oil, replace filter and fill. I recently came across something I personally didn't know from the...

    Replacing Expansion Valve??

Before working on the compressor, I took it down to have the system evacuated and the mechanic told me I should swap out the drier as well as the expansion valve. After some research I did find that once the system is opened, the drier is prone to failing due to moisture getting in and...

    Maintaining Your Maintenance-Free Battery : )

Old post - new story Was having troubles the last couple of days with starting. Came across this thread and decided to take a look. After pulling the battery and removing the plugs, I ended up added almost 1/2 gallon of water, yikes! Might be too far gone but we'll see how it turns out.

    Blinking Battery Light

Some time ago I started getting a blinking battery light. It wasn't continuous but would flash for a second or so then out for 2 or 3 seconds and would repeat. This past weekend I got a loud noise from the alternator/belt area. The tensioner was vibrating badly. Turns out the alternator pulley...

ebay aftermarket alum a4 oil pan

Bought one last week. It had what looked like internal cracks. Showed it to a couple of people, without telling them it was a $35 pan off ebay. They would not take the chance. Consistent heating and cooling might open the cracks up leading to failure.

    Wreck and repair??

Okay, got the info submitted. My next question is how would I go about determining an accurate "Diminished Value" amount? Using KBB its valued at $10,063 in Good condition which it WAS. Fair condition is $8913 which also stated it as a "Clean Title History". I would think most TDI owners are...

    Wreck and repair??

I can tell this is going to be a long road. The man told me he was going to call his insurance first thing in the morning. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and waited Friday till around 1:00 p.m. I finally call his insurance, "Progressive", and the agent told me he has heard nothing of it and...

    Wreck and repair??

So last night someone plowed into the back drivers wheel area. It bent the wheel about 35 degrees out. Is this the type of repair that can be done by any reputable repair shop or is it best to take it to a TDI specialist? Thanks

    Replacing the antenna base

Finally got around to changing the base out this evening in my 2005 Jetta. For some reason the head liner was already popped off the lip at the rear. I thought maybe its already been replaced before? I was able to carefully slip in a block of wood and work in the limited space. It was a pain...

    Door lock actuator or motor??

No, my problem is a weak/dying actuator (or whatever is in there). We used to install these to convert locks to power locks. This was about 16 yrs ago. Not sure what they are using in there for the 2005 model.

    04 timing belt

Timing Belt Guide for 04 - 05 models? So I was finally getting around to this because I am at the 80k mark. I knew I had these references but just realized its not what I thought. This link and the other by Drivbiwire (pdf manual) refer to the earlier A4 models. Is there a similar...
