Ca-Ching!
Four checks showed up today for four vehicles where I only got $175.00 per car in 2017. I never thought I would actually see this money, but thank you, Bosch! Letter said they finally were able to verify the prior owners made no claim. These were all cars bought after 9/18/15.
Flipped a bunch of them but planned on keeping my first TDI, a 2012 manual Passat. But a broken clutch spring (after my last flipper was turned in) made that car a ticking time bomb. So it had to go. I miss the manual transmission at times, but my commute changed to include a lot of stop and go...
You get a notice (at 1500 miles to go, if I remember right) to add DEF. It will go down to a few hundred miles before it threatens to not start. Just wait until you get the 1500 mile warning, then sometime in the next two fill ups, add a 2.5 gallon container for about $12.00. Easy.
Same situation with me. I've driven several of both cross country. I'd vote for the Passat, as long as you get some good Michelin tires for it. The Jetta might be a little more fun around town, but you pay for it on the highway. Not as good a ride and a lot noisier, in my opinion.
The Audi we turned in a few day ago - power steering was completely out, I could barely turn the wheel. It went out a few days before turn in day, during the recent extreme cold here. They took it back no problem.
You will have no problem if a window doesn't work.
Still driving a '96 Polaris Indy 500 (2 carbs) with > 5,000 miles. Good sled, although the newer suspensions are night and day better for fast trail riding.
We turned in an Audi this week, the specialist said her contract might not be reviewed in the coming weeks. She was already covering a four-state area, traveling as much as a few hundred miles one way each day. My guess is the OP's specialist was falsely told (or speculated) that dealership...
In MN, a few stations will still pump your gas if you pull up to the right pump. Mostly your small town, old fashion garage and gas pump stations, like the Mobil station in my town. I've seen a few old ladies do that, especially when it's extremely cold. But it is rare that a driver would not...
With this process, there is always the chance for a snafu. In your case, they could come back and say there is another outstanding claims on the car, which could delay things. I guess if I were you, I would proceed with your wife claiming the car, and call the hotline, or do the online chat, and...
- There is no fix for 2012 - 2014 manual Passats. 2015s have a fix available
- If fix has been done, you have one option - drive it (with a good extended warranty). You cannot sell it back to VW after the fix has been performed.
Pretty simple.

I find the left armrest WAY too low, I made this one that tucks into the door/existing armrest using a thin price of sheet metal. The rest has a plywood base, a styrofoam block, with some foam rubber on top to make it soft on the elbow. Covered it with some vinyl...
I thought Passats had been granted an extended warranty of 120,000 miles / 10 years on the heater core.

Another reason to keep it at the full mark is, between oil changes, a certain amount of contamination occurs to the oil. I would rather have that spread over 5 quarts instead of 4 quarts. Not sure this would make any practical difference, but I have to believe it is at least marginally better...
Worst oil change ever... I have 2.
First one, I bumped the oil sensor on a 85 Caravan when the wrench slipped. That caused the check oil light to go on, but no leaks etc. I figured I'd pick up a new sensor during the week and replace it next weekend, no problem. Picked up the sensor on...
