Reviving 02 Beetle after botched timing belt change 5 years ago

Had to tighten the cam back down and then back each nuts out in smaller increments so the lifters raised the cam more evenly. At least three of the lifters have extremely defined bow tie wear marks.

Reviving 02 Beetle after botched timing belt change 5 years ago

Finally got the cam gear off. Trying to take the cam shaft out. I removed the 5 caps after they were labeled and marked. However the camshaft doesn't lift out easily. It feels like it is held in place. The left side starts to lift but the right side is held fast. What is the correct way to...

Reviving 02 Beetle after botched timing belt change 5 years ago

I am not sure where the water came from, but the car has been partially disassembled for 5 years. Discovered the turbo is seized. Eventually I will remove the housings and see if the blades are stuck or if maybe it has just sat to long in one spot. Took the hard fuel lines off the injectors...

Reviving 02 Beetle after botched timing belt change 5 years ago

Finished removing the exhaust manifold. Found a torx t-30 bit, replacing those with the none torx option when reinstalling. The turbo actuator still had water that would drip out of it.

Reviving 02 Beetle after botched timing belt change 5 years ago

Was able to get the turbo oil feed line to release by applying leverage to the line with a crescent wrench. Removed the four lower row of bolts on the exhaust manifold. Disconnected the turbo actuator vacuum line, several drops of water? came out of the disconnected line. Was able to get the...

Reviving 02 Beetle after botched timing belt change 5 years ago

Yeah, 3/8 to 1/2. Both studs on the exhaust heat shield backed out rather than the nuts coming off, same for the opposite side holding the turbo oil feed line. Was also able to loosen 3 of the 4 nuts on the bottom of the exhaust manifold, could get the right angle on the one behind the oil feed...

Reviving 02 Beetle after botched timing belt change 5 years ago

After lots of reading I decided to accept fate. I need to pull the head. Tonight I removed the egr cooler and intake manifold as well as loosened the top row of exhaust manifold nuts. Didn't have the leverage to break the exhaust heat shield nuts. Need to purchase a 1/4 to 1/2 adapter or just...

Reviving 02 Beetle after botched timing belt change 5 years ago

5 years ago I attempted to do a timing belt change on my 02 beetle with automatic transmission. I was following the ALH a4timingbelt.pdf guide, it was going well. I got the timing belt on and before putting the valve cover on tried turning the engine over by hand. I dont recall if the glow plugs...

Too many TDI need to pick one

My 14 JSW was totaled now I am unsure what I should do to replace it. Should I resurrect my rusty crusty 98 Jetta runs and drives just hasn't been on the road in 9 years? Still burning the same diesel from that last fill up. I don't remember all the issues I originally put it out to pasture. The...

[SOLD]: 2014 Jetta Sportwagen TDI: rear ended $3500 Holiday, FL

Copart called me not even 10 minutes after I left the shop to arrange pickup. I assume copart is giving them the same $1100 they would give me. The payout is a little below $14000.

[SOLD]: 2014 Jetta Sportwagen TDI: rear ended $3500 Holiday, FL

My Automatic 2014 Jetta Sportwagen TDI was just rear ended this last weekend and has been totaled by the insurance company. I haven't officially heard from insurance yet about it being totaled or how much I would have to buy it from them for, but 10 minutes after leaving the inspection shop...
