I don't know about that particular model, but the RNS-510 that was in my Passat had an integrated Sirius tuner, so separating it from the HU was a no-go. Would have been great if I could, since they also never cancelled my free trial.
Exactly! When HD radio came out I said "wow, all those commercials sure will sound great!"
I've been an XM subscriber since 2002. The (programming) quality of the music stations went down considerably when Sirius bought them, but as long as you have a radio that uses XM's satellites...
I bought literally the cheapest double-DIN HU I could find on Amazon and stuck it in the dash. I had installed a Pioneer AVIC-8000NEX and sold off the RNS-510 and, like you, was absolutely not going to turn it in with that.
Same with me, more or less. The deposit went into my savings account immediately, but wasn't made fully available for a few days. It must be because it was a physical check, because there was no hold on the EFT.
I feel you. I paid extra for Monster Mats, first aid kit, the trunk liner and CarGo blocks, the lip spoiler, and side body molding. I kept the first aid kit because I never used it and it looks exactly like the Honda accessory kit (they're probably made in the same factory and get a different...
Yeah, that definitely doesn't sound right. When they paid my loan off it was for the same amount as in the original offer letter (as of 12/25) even though my buyback wasn't scheduled until 2/2, which meant I'd made two payments since they got that payoff number.
I swapped in a non-nav HU and there was no issue. It wasn't even connected because I ran out of time. I had removed my RNS-510 forever ago and replaced it with a top-of-the-line Pioneer HU and I was sure as hell not leaving that in.
Right. In my case, it didn't matter because I had an SEL and thus the nav system didn't increase or decrease the buyback amount. In the case of an SE with Nav, though, it does.
If OP just had a standard, non-nav radio, then it shouldn't matter.
I'd add that if the radio specifically factors into your buyback calculation, you should leave it in, or have a suitable aftermarket replacement on-hand.
There are clear penalties already spelled out for deviating from the timelines. I would like to see those enforced, no "blowing things up" or anything else "extreme" necessary.
I can't vouch for the veracity of the statement, but the phone rep told me that payoff checks get cut and then sent to VW for processing to their final destination. It sounded like it was happening in the same physical location as the rest of VW's document processing efforts (Auburn Hills?)...
I decided pretty early on. I knew I was going to be very close to the next mileage bracket up at turn-in time, which cemented it for me. I ended up not going over, but it was every bit as close as I expected.
I don't think that I would have had the money any faster had I selected check, because...
