obdeleven does most of the stuff that vagcom does for $80. as long as you have an android phone or tablet. i've made countless changes to my mk7. some using the apps that require credits, other by using the adaptations and long coding.

you can shut off the car and then press the left radio knob and it will turn the radio on

I guess that explains what happen to the 16's that were supposedly at the port when dieselgate hit. I passed on a 2015 and was waiting for a 16 to get the carplay.
