I am starting this thread to remind me to check the shift condition of both my BRM's. Read this thread about general talk on shift quality and possible wear.
Note the date and shift discription in my post. I changed the oil in both my...
3 years ago I bought the cheapest Febi cam I could find on the internet. It was going to be my 3rd cam.
The first Oem cam was replaced under warranty and had a dubious history of oil changes although 5w-40 505.01 was used.
The second Oem cam was showing wear on both #1 and #2 exhaust follower...
Memorandum on Solid Lubricants
This is an interesting read as the issues in this article pretty much parallel the issues for the science on the subject today up to 2014. See why below.
Read it here
or read it here, which...
Could this be the best oil yet(?) for a 2006 PD BRM with 260,000 kilometres
34000 kilometres on cheap Febi cam and Biosyn 5w-40. The first oil change was 12000 kilometres and then the second was 22000 km. and...
Looking for considered opinions. Good kit and was thinking about how far I should be able to go considering the following changes.
The kit was put in 2011 with 122,000 kilometers on the odometer.
I replaced inner valve springs at 142000 km; 15% reduction in pressure
from 147 lbs. to 125 lbs...
Using the above info compare:
The BEW has the stock pump
The BRM has the high out put pump (a different drive ratio that according to Franko6 drives the pump 30% faster).
My thought is this. We are saying( the club average is saying) 5w-40 weight...
I installed an amsoil by pass oil filter on my 2006 jetta. I used the following 42 designs to adapt to the pressure port on the filter housing and then U-loop back with the 12 inch hose and 4 way block with the sending unit, so I could attach to the to the same electrical connector. The sending...
What brand ester oils are available for a 2006 PD. I want to run an ester and pao type oil after I change out my camshaft, something in the 14 cst range would be ideal. Needs to be 505.01 or CJ4 or equal.
Here's my story.
I have spent a lot of time preparing to grind a taper relief to prevent loading of the follower as shown in pic.
The pickup on the base circle is exactly opposite to the injection lobe ramp and is located in the base circle just prior to the exhaust opening ramp.
I have the transmission out and the sub-frame round rubber inserts for the dog-bone ( bently calls it a pendulum support ) are cracked( rubber). Can someone tell me how to get them out. The top one looks like the torsion bar is blocking it.
You can see from this picture the hole in the subframe...
As per the title. I know that any cam lobe after it sits static under load for more than 1-3 minutes will completely displace the oil depending on temperature( estimate static break out 3x greater here compared to even 5 rpm). Is there any antiwear additive that would significantly affect this...
Black smoke on Start and Revving 2006 BRM
I have grey to black smoke at start up about a 2 -3 foot trailing and then clean.
If I moderately rev the car up and down in the 2000 to 3000 range no black smoke, but if I increase or quicken the up and down rev it starts to generate a puff of...
When starting the 2006 jetta manual with 195000 kilometers it has the usual white smoke but resently it is mixed with black smoke but it is predominate black. Once it idles for 10 sec it goes a way.
Going up the road each shift is followed by a small puff of black smoke as...
This is a quote from the Shell site. Is this referring to fullerenes in there oil.

Engine Died,No Crank, No Power to Dash/Starter
I hope this helps others. It seems to be a problem since it is available with a discription of the problem it causes from at least ID parts.
I tried the above discripter( as in the...
Top End Noise, combustion or mechanical?
I brought this over from the lub. thread. I am constantly listening to my engine since I want to hear anything different. Since I live in a wide range of temperatures I think it gives me one added advantage to determining what causes top end noise...
