    Third starter failing

Dual Mass from original engine/tranny. I'm using a diesel bell housing with space ground away to fit the flywheel.

    Third starter failing

Hi, I have a European 1.9 ASV in my Vanagon. It came with the original starter and I have since upgrade to an adapter place and a North American TDI starter. I swapped the original starter because it sounded like it was running on after the vehicle started. Upgrade went well but it was only a...

    coolant overflow

Ok, thanks for the help. I did a full bleed of the system. I got bubbles and coolant from the rad bleed screw and a bug wet juicy burp from the reservoir, so I did have air in the system. The burp occurred after the thermostat opened. I had a coolant flush and fill about a month ago, and a...

    coolant overflow

No EGR so not that. Head Gasket was replace 17,000 km ago, so doubtful but not out of the question. Big part is that the hoses soften overnight, so no pressure there, but the coolant still overflows....

    coolant overflow

Ok, it seems I have another problem. 1.9 TDI ASV. Went on a run yesterday, speeds of up to 100kph (60mph), about 20 minutes. Stopped and turned off engine and coolant started coming out of the overflow tube on the coolant bottle. Not a lot. Then drove back home, when I turned off the engine...

Bit of a boast I suppose

I have a 1.9 ASV TDI in my 1987 Vanagon full Westfalia, upped to about 130 hp, EGR delete. I'm pretty heavy, about 2500 kilo fully loaded (5500 lbs). I went for a longer trip this weekend, 1000 km or about 600 miles. I got 35 MPG imperial, 30 MPG US! I think that's amazing! Gregor

VCDS Works but ScanGauge does not

Ok, still no working scangauge, or any OBDII reader. Does anybody know if the ECU out of a European ECU from a 2002 even supports OBDII? That could be my problem. It wasn't mandated in Europe until 2004, but if was in North America would they not just include it in Europe? Thanks, Gregor

    Blue smoke at specific RPM;s

Video of issue is here: https://youtu.be/2t0oSBYTYb4 More information: The issue is that when revving the engine with no load I would get a small sputtering and white/blue smoke at between 2000 to 2800 RPM. Unplugging the MAP would make it worse, starting at around 1600 RPM to 2800 RPM...

    Blue smoke at specific RPM;s

That’s what we figure. Issue gets worse unplugging MAP. Stays same unplugging MAF. Bad MAF? Gregor

    Blue smoke at specific RPM;s

Hi, I have a 110HP ASV. EGR Deleted. I get blue smoke and a slight sputtering of the engine between 2000 and 2800 RPM. There is quite a bit of smoke. Any ideas on what I should be looking at? Does not seem to be burning oil from my last check. oil level right at top of dots on stick...

    Coolant temp sensor to ground?

Hi, I have a code: 00522 - Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (G62) 30-10 Open or Short to Plus - intermittent I put in a new temp sensor and the code did not clear. (update: I attempted to clear with VCDS/VAG-COM) I tested the pins on the connector and one line to the ECU goes to...

    Label file for ASV engine?

My engine code does not exist in the list, so no go there. Luckily the ALH engine is very close, close enough to use the label file

    Label file for ASV engine?

Hi, I have a transplanted TDI in my Vanagon/T3. I have the 110 HP ASV engine. Which label file do I use for this ECU? I've tried looking for an ASV or the closely related ALH label file but can't find one. Does anybody know? If I get the correct label file, how do I force VCDS to you it...

VCDS Works but ScanGauge does not

Ok, I can see the VW used pin 1 for switched power, but odds are very good the ScanGauge would not use that since the ScanGauge is a universal product. I'm putting my money on grounding pin 5. Will update after I've done that. Gregor

VCDS Works but ScanGauge does not

The scangauges do work on other vehicles. I am now thinking that it's the missing ground on pin 5. Someone has also told me that switched power to pin 1 is also required but I see no evidence for this elsewhere.
