I did quite a bit of testing with low and high range yesterday. If I use low range, the transmission will be shifting alot, and I know that will cost me speed every time that happens. I am planning to just turn ESP off and use high range in 1st and 2nd gear.

I couldn't see the pictures. But besides that, it sounds like it could be the injection quantity adjusted too rich. It could easily be checked with VCDS.

I do remember looking up that program as well. The problem is that the company stopped making it years ago, and you can't buy it anymore.

If I remember correctly, there are other numbers on the ccm that need to match besides just the VW part number. My brother was replacing his CCM in his 2003 Jetta TDI Wagon, and he bought one that was originally in a sedan. That did not work to well with the hatch.

Definitely check the glow plugs to make sure they are the newer 7v plugs. Also did you adjust the injector set screw after you installed a new camshaft? Probably not the problem, just an idea.

Just an idea... If your crank to cam timing is off more than about 5 degrees, it will revert back to 0.0 in VCDS. If you watch the timing in VCDS while revving the engine, it will normally move about 0.5 degrees. If it does not move at all and stays at 0.0, then the mechanical timing is...

Good idea, I have been wondering about that myself. If the T fitting O-rings at the top of the filter were leaking slowly, it could allow the fuel to drain back to the tank.

A VCDS and vacuum pump are great tools to check the EGR. The engine control module uses the MAF sensor to determine whether the EGR system is actually working. Watch the mass air flow in VCDS while the engine is running and a vacuum pump is hooked directly to the EGR valve. Cycle the EGR on...

I have replaced a couple Beetle TDI alternators. It is a little tight, but easily done in less than three hours (two hours on a vehicle lift). If you drop the AC compressor down and remove the passenger cooling fan, it gives you room to get the alternator out.

Thank you. I was under the impression that getting it rebuilt to a hybrid turbo with bigger thrust bearings would increase turbo life and boost (with a tune). Would you agree or no?
