(SOLD) FS: 99.5 Jetta TDI - Pittsburgh, PA - Needs Work, includes parts $1800
Manual, 212k miles. Alternator is fried and the shifter linkage is broken (Linkage FIXED 7/23/18). Interior is 5/10. No rips or anything but the headliner replacement is not so great. A/C blows cold. Body is 5/10...
There's some very good advice here! Andybees list is full of smaller things that I've had to do to my MKIV.
I would add a few lower priority things:
* Clean out the front fender liners. They are known to accumulate debris and rust out, although maybe this isn't a thing in Texas.
* Check the...
Thanks for the recommendations! She didn't have the patience for my schedule so she just had the inspecting mechanic do the work. Labor only ending up being $110 for all new rotors and pads, which is a lot more reasonable than I expected her to report.
My girlfriend needs brakes (pads & rotors) for her 2012 Kia Forte. I've never done brakes other than for my A4 Jetta. Where do people buy brake parts for non vws? Brands to look for?
Thanks!
You might get lucky applying some dielectric grease to the glow plugs where they interface with the harness. Even if it doesn't fix the problem, consider it with a new harness.
My understanding is that if the crow's foot is at a 90 degree angle from the torque wrench it won't affect torque spec. Pretty sure that's how you're supposed to use the metalnerd tool, as well.
I think I need to cycle the abs. I had a really strange bleed experience tonight. I had a friend over and we did it manually. Started at the rear, cracked the bleeder, normal stream. Did half a dozen pumps, and what? That’s weird the fluid level hadn’t changed AT ALL. I went to top it off anyhow...
Seems that I jinxed myself. Despite the picture, all they had were calipers with the newer style parking brake cable lever. Guess I'll be swapping that over. I hope the old one comes off.
The early MK4 had slightly different style parking brake cables that require a slightly different caliper. The new style caliper works but requires the new style parking brake cable. Pretty sure the only non-reman calipers left are the new style. Who knows, maybe I could find the oem caliper at...
I went to do my rear brakes and one of my calipers is frozen. It wouldn't budge when I put the brake tool on it to push (and turn) the piston back in. So I cracked the bleeder and it still wouldn't move. I knew this brake was dragging but the mechanic who failed me on the inspection said it was...
I agree that something looks weird in the bottom picture. Shouldn't the bearing at the bottom of the bushing be what compresses the spring, with a plate sandwiched in between?
One thing I never understood about these mounts, is it just the weight of the car that keeps the bushing in the body-side of the mount? The cup doesn't seem to be tightened down to where it sandwiches everything in place.
Edit: LOL. I was literally typing this out at the same time as...
