Timmy, call your local salvage yards. I just found one for my jetta for 100 bucks, same color same year, all I had to do was install. Used car-part.com/ to find it. You can narrow your search by distance from your zip. Good luck.

original turbo - Crapped the bed. Lost power, smoked a good bit more, smelled like diesel. I had the one incident of the engine running wild, it went straight to the shop. The dealer made the original diagnosis. My guy said it was shot, but he wasn't specific. I'll find out tomorrow. . ...

The oil is low, but it didn't suck it dry. I was using his words when I said 15 sec. When it ran away on me . . I cant recall how long it lasted, seemed like a long time, but you're right, was probably much shorter. Many thanks for your advice.

It never made it out of the parking lot of the garage that installed the turbo. This happened before the turbo was replaced. Smelled, to me, like diesel, but I dont know for sure. I had it towed to the dealer, the dealer said it was the turbo and wanted my first born child to replace it. So, I...

It stopped on its own, it ran wild for about 15 sec, smoked like crazy and quit. The engine still starts.

I have not driven it, thank goodness. And yes, there is still oil. Was the turbo improperly installed?

I just had the turbo replaced on my 96 passat. Now, when the car heats up (approx 15 min) the engine redlines and it starts to smoke like crazy. Any ideas what might be happening?
