Oil Change Kit I've got an oil change kit that I bought from Momentum: 5 quarts of Castrol Edge Pro LL03 plus an OEM oil filter. I will not be using this. Who wants it? It would cost $67.95 plus shipping from ID Parts. You can have it for $40. Pickup in Manvel, Downtown, or The Galleria...

    CR engine HPFP analysis

Were you using Opti-Lube for the first 10K miles? Service tech found no sparklies on my 2012 at 20K. I even asked for the fuel filter back to confirm on my own. FWIW, I've been using 1 quart of B100 and ~4oz of Diesel Kleen since new.

    CR engine HPFP analysis

Not sure. He did say that they've replaced the HPFP on VWOA's dime for blatant and admitted misfuelings. I'm not sure if that was before or after the HPFP grenaded.

    CR engine HPFP analysis

I don't disagree that it sounds far fetched. I'm guessing that its a judgement call in reality: lots of sparklies at 40K? Maybe replace. A few at 20K? Probably normal break-in. Update: I just picked up the car and asked again. He reiterated that VW says to replace the HPFP in such circumstance...

    CR engine HPFP analysis

I just dropped my 2012 Jetta SportWagen off for its 20k service. When I asked the attendant to make sure I get a report of the fuel filter inspection, he said that if they find any metal in the filter they'll replace the HPFP and all the lines. He said VW is well aware of this and they're being...

Accidently but a little gas in diesel tank?

True. It's also true that diesel and gasoline share pipelines. Going from one to another is called "switchover" and is guaranteed to be contaminated. Some retailers buy refined product from the "middle", others do it during switchover which costs them less. If you've driven a diesel for any...

Misfueling adventure (and why I hate New Jersey)

Sorry guys - Yes, I moved back home to NY (temporarily, at least) not long ago. I didn't have my ChimpanZed login as I've been inactive for a while. When I went to post, I tried to recover my password but it never showed up. I wanted to share the story so I re-registered. I then found my...

Misfueling adventure (and why I hate New Jersey)

It was a pneumatic pump that the shop had. It worked very quickly.

    Diesel Driver Survey

Good point. Changed to a true/false question. If the answer is "yes", an additional pops up asking how frequently the additive is used. I added another answer that allows people to input other biodiesel percentages. Agreed - thanks for the input!

    Diesel Driver Survey

Because the survey goes far beyond tdiclub.com. Many other forums have been asked to complete the survey.

    Diesel Driver Survey

Happy to add additional questions if you think it's warranted. Make your case and I'll add them to the survey. I've already made some minor changes to the survey based on feedback (but please don't take it twice!). I plan on sharing it once I've got a meaningful amount of responses (I think a...

VW got tired of people putting gas in their TDI?

I spoke with the service manager of Momentum VW in Houston while my car was in for its 10K service. He says they've seen no shortage of HPFP "grenades " (his word). Unofficially, VW has been covering HPFP repairs for cars out of warranty and even ones that clearly have been misfueled. He says...

    5% Bio Diesel?

"Up to" is what bothers me. It could be 0%, it could be 5%. I'd rather buy straight D2 and add a quart of B100 as then I know what I'm getting. One fairly uncommon station (Love's) around me lists their exact blend and that varies from station to station.

TDI Used Oil Lab Analyses Results & Discussions

UOA at ~5000 miles on a CR Tired of reading opinions rather than facts, I decided to take a sample from my new JSW just before it hit the 5K mile mark. I used some vinyl hose to pull the sample from the dipstick tube. I'm using 1 quart of B100 and 5oz PowerService Diesel Kleen with every ~12...

Finally did it. 50 mpg plus

With my 5000 mile JSW I get ~53mpg at 55mph so I expect that to hold true with the CR models once broken in.

    1114 mile oil

Follow-up: I got a 4-foot length of hose from my local hardware store that fits nicely down the dipstick tube. I pulled a vacuum (with my mouth) and until I could see the oil, pulled it out, and let it run into the oil sample container. I did this three time until I got ~1-2oz of oil.

    1114 mile oil

I've used Blackstone before and have some of their kits on hand. My concern is around doing a mid-OCI sample as removing the pan plug clearly isn't an option. I like the dip-stick option above better than the filter area.

    1114 mile oil

Minor threadjack: I want to sample my oil at 5K and have it analyzed. What's the easiest way to get a few ounces of oil? Perhaps from the oil filter?

Interesting Discussion with Dealer about HPFP, Oil CHanges, DSG and Tires

What is the rationale? 1) Running out of diesel is bad as the HPFP, etc. could run dry. Therefor, be diligent about not running out of fuel and use a 1/4 tank as a rule of thumb about when to fill up. OR 2) There is something detrimental about having a low volume of fuel in the tank. 1 I'd...
