    approaching 400,000 miles

    I wouldn't have any issue with doing that, I regularly take extended trips in high mileage cars. Mileage is just a number, the car doesn't understand that concept. If it has been maintained I would do it. If things like wheel bearings, ball joints, etc haven't been done, I'd check them. Also...

    5sp transmission help!

    100% agree, verify that everything else is in good order. Shifter under the console, cable ends, shifter tower. Put decent fluid in the trans. If the issue still exists, then clutch is the next thing to check... The release bearing and clutch are made of butter and don't last. I had to do the...

    Boostedcrx91, yeah I sent you a PM with my phone number. UhOh, will do. It won't be far from where it's priced because this isn't a clapped out car we need to unload. I'm indifferent between selling or keeping around this price...

    /// What's it worth / ease of fixing? ///

    people get into these cheap cars that end up needing thousands of dollars of work... or alternatively many hours of labor. i got into mine really cheap, but after replacing the head, timing belt stuff... finally driving the car, then i found out it had a bent inner tie rod, bad brakes...

    Thanks astonishedboy, yeah it isn't overly hard - i did a bit of a writeup in the interior forum but there are probably way better how-to's on vortex about this sort of thing

    FS: 2000 2 door Golf TDI 5 spd, one owner

    The car is priced high because the price reflects the quality of this example. Whether someone wants a quality car is another question. I sold my modified Golf for $3.5; this car is at least $3K better

    *** Advice *** 03 Jetta Tdi 195,000 busted a lifter...Question is

    Fix 100%, parting out sucks. You end up with a hundred parts that are perfectly good that no one wants but you don't want to throw away because you know someone out there is in desperate need of it and doesn't want to pay dealer prices. Example, i have boost pipes, air intake pipes, sprockets...

    Thanks @Mike in Anchorage! Bump again! Clapped out cars are selling near $3k, this car is nice as pie; hoping to find it a good home. You will spend more buying a clapped out car and fixing it than buying a nice one to begin with.

    New car, previous owner doesn't know if timing belt has ever been changed

    I mostly build cars too far gone for anyone else to touch. I love doing it and bringing the car back to near mint condition. In terms of priorities, it all depends on your approach. I usually tackle the biggest hurdles first. If I get a car that doesn't run, I deal with that first then once...
