Does anyone know the typical shop price to do a timing belt on a 2006 Jetta BRM? I'd go to DCB like I have in the past but now that he moved its a little bit of a mission.

When I got the quote from the dealer it was only slightly less than getting a Malone tune with immobilizer delete. If I had to choose I'd go with the tune. I think Malone told me $100 for immob delete alone.

If your issue is actually an ecu problem then you can't do an immob delete or synch via vcds. The dealer quoted me $300 for synching the donor ecu, which was unreasonable to me. I have a spare ecu that I tested to be working if you're interested but I paid more for it than some Junkers charge -...

Took apart the dead ecu to check for damage, found that salt water had infiltrated the vent hole. Is the vent required or can I silicone over it?

Found a local guy to do an immob delete on my donor ecu and the car is back in service!

Car is getting towed to VW to get the ecu synched wth the immobilizer. Is the dealer able to do this with just a donor used ecu? I'm reading other threads that they can't?

The shop put another ecu in and everything seemed ok. Just have to get the immobilizer synched up now. Is the dealer the only option for this? I have a spare good ecu that I got since they were having issues with their shipping carrier if anyone needs one

In addition to the symptoms above, my cooling fans come on when the ignition turns on. It did not do this prior to the no start

I'll be getting the car towed back to my house. I want to do a few tests before I dump the car. He said there is power going to the ecu but ecu is not outputting anything. Are there some pins I can check or simple test to try to verify it is an ecu issue?

Thanks for the input, I feel the same way. I'm probably going to end up selling/parting the car as it doesn't make financial sense for me to throw a couple thousand into it at this point. Kinda sad to get rid of my diesel.

When I took in to the shop last time they evacuated the system, held a vacuum and then added the correct weight back in. Thanks for the input. I'll order the correct RCV this time.

Surprised that the car doesn't seem as bad as I would have imagined! In the second pic, what are the yellow and brown wires for? I have them dangling on my car the same way since I got the car and can't figure out where they're supposed to go.

Do the values point to a faulty RCV?
