Get your facts straight. Congress passes environmental laws and EPA implements them. You forget that all regulations must survive a long and intensive public review and comment period prior to implementation. Biased testing? Fat chance given the scrutiny EPA receives. Hard to believe but most...
I read posts like this and can only conclude that, in addition to VW, some diesel car owners, usually the old-timers, are hazardous to the future of diesel cars. Anyone in the public can read this thread and take away that a significant number of diesel owners don't give a damn about the air...
Fortunately, the law determines what is banned, not any individual. Values may eventually rebound if TDIs become scarce. If you believe this, it might be a good idea to stock up on a few when prices are down and sell for a profit later. Some are possibly already doing this.
That's someone else's job. EPA's job is public and environmental health. They are not requiring all TDI owners to get the emissions fix or taking the cars off the road so I guess they have some sensitivity to consumer concerns.
Why blame EPA when VW is to blame as has been restated ad nauseum on this forum? VW cheated because they couldn't meet EPA emission requirements, EPA promulgated these requirements because Congress required them to comply with the law, and Congress passed the law because we, the public, demanded...
$7.9B per year? How outrageous! It works out to what...a little over $24 per person per year? I'm shocked, shocked at how much they gouge us for clean air and water. Shhh...(very few of us are supposed to know about this conspiracy).
Agreed that the test is a limited sample but, according to the account I read, they did multiple tests using different drivers and accounted for wind speed and grade. See:
http://www.hybridcars.com/consumer-reports-finds-vw-tdis-go-slower-and-get-worse-mpg-in-cheat-mode/
Well, if not in cheat mode, what explains the differences between the tests? CR has an advanced auto testing facility that receives scrutiny from every auto manufacturer out there so the testing has to be accurate and verifiable. It's an early test and subject to verification but the...
EPA and some states are working to lower NOx emissions from all sources, not just TDIs. We're butt hurt because VW lied and got caught. Now the cars will have to be fixed to comply with the law. Other cheaters, if caught, will also be prosecuted. The plan is to shrink the size of the NOx pie...
Taxpayer subsidies are great! I got one buying my TDI. Industry never passes up a subsidy and, in fact, are quite good at lobbying for them which we all pay for, of course. The smart taxpayer never misses a break.
What VeeDubTDI said. EV tax credits pale in comparison to other industry subsidies. As soon as an affordable 150+ mile range EV comes on market, I'm outta here, subsidized or not.
This is probably not the right place but please breakdown your calculations on the solar system and EV mileage calculations factoring in EV battery costs. They don't sound very realistic.
