Yeah I just hope I didn't cause any damage. There wasn't much plastic on stick, guess I keep an eye on the oil level just to make sure I'm not loosing any.
Long story short I was in pinch and tried to use a dipstick heater to keep the oil warm during this EFFING VORTEX thing. I let it sit for about an hour and went out to check it when I noticed it was hard to remove. I got it out and noticed some melted plastic on the end of the stick. Not Good...
I had the Conti Pro DWS and they were great. I got about 50K all highway and ran them down to 3/32. Still good for wet pavement, but not standing water. I just got the Conti Pure Contacts DWS and love them so far. I went with these due to better snow ratings only. They first day it was raining...
Do it.
I had a start issue this morning as it was 0* out and has been well below freezing for several days. I just let the glow plugs cycle a few times and let warm up for about 5min before I drove it. Its been a great car for me. 95k trouble free miles so far.
My car in my SIG is at 48k miles and averages 43-45mpg per tank 90% highway. My friend how has the same car with the DSG who drives pretty much the same route to work averages 38ish. Get the manual if you want the mpg's and get the DSG if you want to relax.
I plan to hold on to it until it costs more to keep it vs. buying something new. When the DPF goes I plan to replace it with something that won't ever clog.
I think since you live in BC that all-wheel drive is a great thing to have...but the fuel savings of the TDi is nice too. My TDi is has an average of almost 42mpg with only 9800 miles. I expect to get a few more by the time its broken in.
