One time, I unplugged my MAF sensor to troubleshoot it and it made my fuel gauge read 0 for the remainder of that tank. On the next fill up, it topped off and started working normally again

I've been looking at that one for a while. Always thought, if my engine grenades I would want one of these built up on the stand ready to go in.
Labor for a complete Engine R&R is potentially less than disassembly, repair...
https://kermatdi.com/files/INSTALL%20INSTRUCTIONS/reclock-vnt17-turbo.pdf i used that as a reference when installing my VNT-17 from KERMA. Step 6 outlines how to trim the OEM hose
Checking in since its been a while and i am pretty sure my CEL problem is fixed.
So after replacing the parts last November, i was still plagued with random intermittent limp mode accompanied with several CEL codes. Shorts to ground/positives and all kinds of electrical fun.
Predominant codes...
Checking in
Replaced turbo
injectors
Map sensor
intake manifold
Replaced Gasser Cluster with correct TDI cluster
tuned it with KermaTDI tunes
Runs like a champ now. but some new things came up:
Since the cluster was replaced and immobilizer is deleted the Radio is in Safe Mode and i dont know...
Update to anyone who wants to know about this mechanic special!
When warmed up, Discovered a pretty nasty fuel leak coming from the fuel pump around the block where the lines go to the injectors. Almost a drip a second when warmed up. When its colder outside, or only driving short distances...
Interesting, Ever find a definitive smoking gun?
Might be too early to tell but it feels like i might be tripping the limp mode by low RPM high power pulls (Lugging it). Seems to not trip limp mode as often when I'm keeping it in higher RPMs.
If this is true, that would be awesome. Otherwise, i've heard its a stealership thing that only they can match car mileage to new clusters.
Carfax maintenance history and DMV mileage check-ins lined up with the current mileage i bought it at. So figured everything was hunky dory
First 5 of...
Good point. Not yet, I have a kit of various vacuum lines from IDparts. I’ll add them to the list of things to do on this thing.
Yeah its exactly as you described, A cornucopia of intermittent open to positive and grounds codes.
Since I got the car a few week ago, I've been pretending to be Enzo Ferrari every time I drive it for that reason lol
I so far I've notice it happening on warmer days and under load. Going up grades on warmish days will certainly limp mode it and pop a CEL.
Most recent codes:
18065
19461...
Could be related to all my lights being weird in the center information section. What a Cluster F*ck lol
Other news, enjoyed 200 miles of no limp mode or CEL until this morning. Might be compound issues but this morning, limp mode was tripped when under load going up a longish grade
Interesting. What is the MPH range for the TDI? I wonder if the speedo gauge face was the TDI, if the needle would line up where it should. The gauge face increments being different spacing.
Bump if anyone wants to snap a pic of the harness in front of the engine. Goes to a connector below the...
Thank you all for the replies. The taped up rectangle is the big plugs that would normally go into a transmission control unit.
Looking through the maintenance records on the CARFAX, I found one for “automatic transmission oil pan change” So this was likely an automatic trans in the past...
Hey folks just picked up an 02 gold TDI 142k on the clock for a deal since it’s got some codes, a CEL with limp mode every 10 min when warmed up.
codes:
17946, 18065, 19459, 19461, 16629
Main questions. Aside from the codes and all of that head ache. It appears to have some electrical harness...
