I hate to resurrect a dead thread but I too was looking for this information. I was in doing a timing belt / water pump and on recommendations from ID parts checked the cam and hydraulic lifters. The lifters were mostly ok, two showed signs of no longer rotating in their bore and had some wear...
Phew....
This was a great thread, I just got done with an alternator pulley/idler/tensioner/serpentine belt replacement.
Had the extra knock noise from the passenger side and the bushing on the tensioner shock had self destructed and the tensioner was jumping around.
Quick look in TDICLUB...
I've had stanadyne in the trunk forever and I keep it wrapped in a shop rag and then inside a 1 gallon freezer bag. Even if the bottle leaks a bit the rag will contain the liquid and the bag contains the odor. I'm almost done with my box of stanadyne bottles, is optilube that much better or is...
If you've done the ventectomy you can put Diesel all the way up to the neck, that's what I do and it gives my 2003 a couple of extra gallons capacity. The last few mins of fill up are foam/wait/foam/wait/foam/wait until the foam clears and you can see the level. Once it is level with the...
Just get the Bluetooth ODBII adapter that the Chinese websites sell, use an app on the smart phone to see how the car is doing, combine that with the map and hopefully you could find a speed that works.
What I've noticed when I've wanted to hypermile is not a set speed but a set throttle...
There's really no way to tell with used axles how the CV joints are without a disassembly and inspection.
As a rule the outer CV joints don't seem to wear as quick as the inner ones, although I don't know how the VR6 axles wear versus the TDI axles. Perhaps they have different wear...
I vented my CCV outside of the engine via a small filter and keep that filter clear of oil, and blocked the pipe that used to feed that oily mist into the intake pre-turbo. I also removed the vacuum hose from the EGR and plugged it so the EGR won't work. I only have to get emissions tested...
I had a vibration that got worse at higher speeds under load. normal riding along was quiet. I just got through doing the inner CV joint swaps (so the driving surfaces are now on the "back side" of the races). I bought two new boot kits which came with gaskets and grease and a snap ring...
Worked for me too!
I had a rather noticeable rumble/vibration when accellerating hard and at higher speeds. This past weekend I tackled the job.
I had ordered a pair of boots from one of our suppliers (Rein brand) which came with a spring clip, wheel nut/washer, grease and boot.
I had to...
Assume you have filled the tank all the way up to the neck and the diesel sits there and doesn't go down anymore. How many gallons usable do you have before your injector pump is sucking air?
Is there a gut-feel for the quantity of fuel between fuel lamp on and splutterage? I realize it's not...
Easiest thing to check first is the fluid, if the fluid has leaked away you won't be actuating the clutch at all so unless you're skilled in clutchless rev-match shifts its going to be a tough ride home.
Is it smoke that lingers or does it disappear quickly like steam? Does it keep on smoking even after it's run for a while or once it is warmed up does it stop or at least slow down? You're not burning any oil are you?
I wonder if you don't have an air bubble in there somewhere that got moved when the heater core was opened up and coolant went through it. I haven't looked carefully to see if the VW would have any spots where air could get trapped but I know my old chevy did and once you burped it the...
Why not call a local auto A/C shop and see if they will come out with a vacuum pump and do it. I doubt they'd pay you for it but if it makes you feel better than not venting it it might be worth a shot. I have 10 lbs of R12 in a container myself but none of my cars use R12 anymore, I gotta see...
Do you have a scangauge? that will give you something to crosscheck the coolant temp with. Mine always reads a few (20 degrees or so ) cooler than the straight up/down dash gauge. Learn what is normal then you can figure out if it's an indication issue or a real temperature issue.
Well I'm no Carnak but my spidey senses are sensing piston/valve commingling and alas, that's never fun.
I really had no idea that VW dealerships were so awful to go to, they sound like undertakers cos everything that goes in there winds up dead.
