just to let you all know I read a comparison of oils by an engineer who called the aimsoil 5w-30 for pre 2007 vehicles the best diesel oil he tested. a lot of the oils others crow about on this site didn't fare well.
just letting you know my experience w/motorkote
calculated averages are up around 4mpg my lowest calculated mpg has been 40-41 [low tire pressure] mpg after motorkote. was 37 -39 before. average after around 46mpg +- before was around 42+- high was 54 after and 52 before. have seen average...
I use stanadyne performance, lube formula, fppf, power service, liquid muscle, or any good product including motorkote fuel additives also try hotshot's secret for older engines.
just as a side note these cars are VERY tire pressure sensitive. I recently adjusted the air pressure with an analog guage to 34 psi and started getting poorer [40-42] mpg put the dc air pump on them and read 32psi on each [at least they were all the same] this pump has a dial gauge with 3 hash...
my fuel economy is brand and state dependent. mostly hwy driving I'm averaging 44 to 46 mpg on pa origin fuel. turkey hill seems to do as well as any hess not so much. a recent fill that went from Millville NJ [Riggings ts not the one in town] to DC and back to pa [very flat land] got me 47.8...
know this is late just did the first service on my sportwagen tdi and the dealer specified they used 5w-30 edge oil on the paperwork I was given. never been a big fan of Castrol products [stemming from the days before synthetics]but I guess its what the dealer used.
no, actually ANYONE can't. were that true anyone would. it takes too much planning, research and experience. most people [even with money] don't have the patience to do the research or the sense to properly collate the information into usable form having grossly overestimated their intellect...
$.02
read somewhere, and I forget where, not in these forums, I don't think, the stock air filter in jettas et al flow more air than a k&n. just too old and feeble minded to remember where that was
also I see at least one complaint that the oils used in the k&n type filters screw up the mas...
don't know about snake oil
motorkote is a polymer type product. it attaches itself to any surface that is exposed to the product via an ion bond, which is the chemical version of magnetism for a lack of better analogy, bearing or otherwise. its really the exact thing as static cling. that...
dealer can't recomend additives
the dealers hands are tied it's the party line the dealer can't recommend it. 1) it'll piss off the manufacturer [their supplier] and sanctions or other penalties could result.
2) warranty and non warranty claims could be thrown back on the dealer or even...
to rotella or not to rotella
while I'm new to the vw tdi I've logged over 2 million miles on dodge cummins products since 1995. I just bought a sportwagen tdi for economy reasons and while I haven't put into full service yet I'm quite pleased at 45 mpg [calculated by actual division] on a run...
