Great news. It may have just been that the "Fuel Meter Valve" on the HPFP was malfunctioning occasionally and the VW recommended fix for that issue was to replace the entire HPFP. Thanks for the update.

Imagine if you sold a common rail TDI on Craigslist and later on the HPFP failed. After finding out how much it cost to repair, if the buyer happened to be a nutcase they might come after you for revenge.
