I went OE replacement from ID parts. I've seen the talk and understand there's a risk, but cost and timing of it all along made this the better option. I wanted to do no modifications nor am I looking for more power as I want economy and don't want to do a DSG tune.
100% confirmed. Got the turbo off tonight (Parked it on Monday because it really started voicing it's dissent on the way home from work) and found a ton of shaft play on the turbine side (I visually inspected when I potholed the car a couple weeks ago but couldn't get in there to get a feel on...
This is indeed, a goner. The stress fracture says it all. There were some other minor details I was looking at also like the wear line on the housing being wider than the impeller and the impeller outer edges having shiny spots, but I couldn't feel ANY shaft play by hand. I'll look closer...
I am only questioning it because it's legitimately intermittent. I can drive it for 20-30 minutes before it'll happen, and even then it'll only happen when moving at crawling speeds or as I'm coming to a full stop. And I can give it extra throttle while getting it to move under it's own power...
Turbo Pending Failure.
- Mileage: 218500
- MY 2012
- Warning Signs: Initial random lack of power leaving a stop until everything woke up. Progressed to random "ghost" howling after being run for a while, would go away if loaded and taken above 1800-2000 RPM that has now become very regular on...
@turbodieseldyke Yeah, I've been looking out for an official notification. It was a heresay post on reddit supposedly from someone who spoke with them directly, but I've seen no indications to confirm it at this point.
My stuff is out for delivery today according to DHL. *Edit* Delivered...
Darkside. But I just saw on Reddit this AM that they're apparently not shipping to the US anymore now too. So as of now I have no clue because there were no warnings or anything when I was on their site last night.
Great info. The day I unplugged it I got a DEF 1500 mile warning. In under 150 miles that's dropped to 600 as of a little while ago. I was thinking that might be the case, thanks for the confirmation.
Making that call to darkside I guess.
That's interesting, and to a degree not surprising either.
Me being me, the question then becomes WHY would forcing the high pressure EGR to stay shut completely mask the potentially failing turbo? I've driven it several times now since unplugging it and other than the CEL the car has been...
Car has a little over 217K miles now. Just replaced the OFH and Thermostat due to some running hot on the freeway in the mountains a few weeks back. Other than those two things and the valve cover being replaced last year, it's all original besides normal maintenance items.
Here's the...
So EGR had a little layer of crud but it was NOTHING like I expected. Really minor all things considered.
As for the intercooler, I got a couple tablespoons of oil out of it. Far as I can tell it's never been off the car. Had a little later of the common green gunk but it's not like it was...
So drove it like normal Tuesday and Wednesday. And it's like driving a totally different and new car. I didn't realize how unhappy and sluggish it was before because of how bad it had to have been heat soaking, but the difference now is absolutely remarkable. Fans only run a few seconds after...
All back together. Took the time to really clean the intercooler, flapper, and EGR out. Seems happy so far. This week will tell as unless anything funky happens between now and Friday, we're taking it back east again Friday night. Will definitely be reporting back.
Well it's all apart and I just confirmed the issue. Thermostat was stuck in a just slightly open position. Probably why I was able to get around normally and idle in my kids car rider school line with the a/c blasting ok, but not open enough to be able to maintain temps on low throttle high...
