Anyone Daily Driving Older TDI Swaps in Modern Traffic?

The swapped engines themself would probably be as reliable as the engines still living in their original car. (Obviously there are exceptions, like if you dropped an ALH in a 2002 F350.) The parts that I’d be concerned about are all the custom stuff that makes them work in the new platform...

Kenworth Announces Sunset of the Iconic W900

https://www.kenworth.com/about-us/news/kenworth-announces-sunset-of-the-iconic-w900-t800-and-c500-models/ I share the road with a lot of these and I’m also a fan of Smokey and the Bandit. Emissions is listed as a main reason why Kenworth is ending the production.

Adblue tank or other diesel specific part unavailability - anyone else dealing with this?

Hey there. The picture above is from my car. I drive it back and forth from St. Louis to Nashville at least twice a month and it’s also my daily commuter to work. So it sees a respectable amount of miles each year. I have a 2015 Golf TDI, but I far prefer to drive the 2000 ALH. The 2015 is...

What did you do to your MKIV today?

Changed the headlight lenses and redid the headlight wiring. I also swapped out the grill with one that was less faded and didn’t have broken tabs.

    Updated Oil Change Intervals

So will the Godzilla last longer because of its simpler pushrod design? Or because it’s using a thicker oil? Or both, of course.

    Buying 2015 Gold TDI

They are enthusiasts cars. I like mine, but I don’t love it. It does not have the soul that my 2000 has. That said, it is as modern of a TDI as we will ever get.

    real world EVs review

The Tesla Charging network continues to grow. FSD continues to be enhanced and there is talk about it being licensed or moved to a subscription service. The home power walls continue to sell. So even if EV sales slow, the company has other revenue streams that can and are growing.

    NCS rust locations

I am actively searching for a replacement vehicle for my wife. We have been looking at 2015 Jettas with a 2.0L gas engine. It seems like the Ohio and Indiana areas have a lot of these cars for sale. My experience with the area tells me their cars tend to rust. With the 2015 Jetta, where...

    Classics

I had a 1978 Dodge Ram with the factory 4.0L inline 6 Mitsubishi DIESEL. If the Lil Red Express was the fastest American made car that year, this thing was the slowest. It also was full time 4wd. It leaked oil faster than I could pour it in. I paid $700 in 2012 or something. Cool rig, I just...

    New to club

You see them on the rare low mileage ones that pop up every month or so. I’ve been eyeing this one but that 01M… Volkswagen Jetta GLS for $7995 on Autotrader with 72k miles. 1 owner. Wagon. Florida car. http://atcm.co/S2PVDP/2A203697.

    real world EVs review

The Amazon Rivian vans were running around by my house when it was hovering around 0 degrees F last week. I should have asked the guy what his range was. Like all Amazon vans it was beat up. One recently hit my neighbors tree. We live in the city! You have to go out of your way to do something...

    real world EVs review

I’m sure your situation is different and I recognize variables here. I talk price savings per mile set since we all drive differently each month, but we can relate to say 100k miles. I need a car I can put 100k miles on every 2.5 to 3 years. My math: 100,000 miles on Diesel: $8,021 - 46 mpg...

    real world EVs review

I couldn’t agree more. My wife drives 40-50k a year and a Corolla is the best cost-per-mile that we’ve come up with. We recently reran the numbers with a couple EV options and the total price-per-mile (including purchase price) combined with the lack of charging infrastructure where she drives...
