Block heater on the 2015 TDI

Owners manual pretty clearly states to not idle to warm the engine, but to start driving fairly quickly after starting the care but to take it easily until the car is at operating temperature. (going from memory, but if necessary I can look up the page number and exact quote). I usually use the...

Diesel Prices Fall Faster Now Than Gasoline

That would depend on your definition of "out west". Mainly Alberta has really cheap gas, but BC not so much, and especially not in Vancouver/GVRD. Ontario has pretty reasonable gas prices overall compared to the rest on Canada.

Block heater on the 2015 TDI

There is an auxiliary electric cabin heater that turns on if the heater dial is on max and the fan is on 2+ until the engine warms up and can take over. Really comes in handy on cold mornings.

    Tire Pressure... 2013 Jetta TDI

Nitrogen is affected by ambient temperature, so it needs to have more nitrogen added/removed in response to changes in the outside air temperature. However, Nitrogen is less likely to escape the tire by permeating through the rubber of the tire and this will help to maintain the pressure at a...

Block heater on the 2015 TDI

If your Mk5 got to 300k w/o a block heater and still didn't give any problems then it sounds like the wear and tear due to the cold start is not that severe of a problem.

What snow tires do you guys use?

We finally got enough snow here in KW to get a good judge of the Conti ExtremeWinterContacts in snow/slush. Really good grip/control and ability to cut through the slop to finally get enough traction to get moving.

    Diesel price...

I saw that when planning a KW-Ottawa drive. I wasn't sure if there was an issue with getting fuel from the reserve (I'm not native), if it was off-road etc. For future reference is it ok for non-natives to buy fuel on reserve and drive it off reserve? Is that station selling on-road or off-road...

Block heater on the 2015 TDI

I have a 2015 also in KW so I'm getting the exact temps you are. Although I keep mine in an unheated garage but its a bit warmer than right on the driveway. I have not bothered to plug in the block heater yet. I have not had any problems with cold starts etc. Use the glow plugs for one cycle...

    Delayed Brakes ?

I was reading through some info on VWVortex about options available through vcds and found this little tidbit: Brake Assist: Tested 12+ Description: Brake assist will make it so you do not have to push down on the brake pedal as hard before the brakes engage. It does not actually make the...

    Diesel price...

I wasn't asking for it to be my regular fill spot, but if I do go past it I intend to make sure that my tank is fuller than when I arrived ;)

    Fueling in jugs... Strictly..

I won't be surprised to see it tied into the license renewal. When you register your vehicle around here you also have to provide the odometer reading. Seems like an appropriate place to try to shoe horn in a "pay per mile/km" tax. Of course that would not be quite fair for...

Stories when filling up at "gasoline station"

Laugh away. She visually checked the outside of the vehicle 4 times before understanding that just going in a circle was not going to help. I've pulled into the wrong side before after driving the wife's car for awhile. It is a bit embarrassing but to do it 4 times in a row you lose your brain...

    Fueling in jugs... Strictly..

His mind is made up no matter what. If you are concerned about how frequently you are filling the jugs, go to different stations. Putting it in your vehicle is already covered as a really bad idea.

Anyone install a back-up camera to rearview mirror?

Base 2015 Jetta has the RCD-510 headunit, backup cam and NO nav. Nav isn't required to have a backup cam work. Bluetooth etc is also included. Sounds like the way to go. Although if you manage to get a backup cam displaying on the rearview mirror I want to see pics :)

Attempting a 600+ mile tank in 2015 Jetta

Filled up today right to the same level as starting the trip and recording the odometer: KMs = 930 Fuel = 49.397L Consumption = 49.397 / (930 / 100) = 5.3L/100km or 44.38 MPG Extrapolating that out to max range on a 55L would have put me at 1037km. So while not a record setting tank it gives...

    Cold weather front...

The 2015 has them built in as "active shutters" and will open/close them in order to heat/cool the engine as needed as well as closing for increased aerodynamics when driving at hwy speed to increase fuel economy. I haven't started the car in conditions as cold as described here (coldest so far...

Attempting a 600+ mile tank in 2015 Jetta

I'm back! I couldn`t post while on the road, was having some problems logging in where I was. The other disappointing bit is that my total driven was only 914.7km (my sister in-law insisted on driving while I was there:() Leaving Waterloo with a full tank (right to the top of the filler neck)...
