I have a never used 2MicronTech Pureflow and Containflow set for a 1st Generation Commonrail TDI. I bought it for my 2009 Jetta TDI and never used it since I sold my car back to VW. The kit is new but has been sitting in a box in my garage. One thing I did notice is the rubber cab on the...
I think you already cleaned your ground wires but did you also check the ones beneath the battery tray? When I bought a used 04’ from New Jersey I had problems with the cruise and engine idle surging. I checked the grounds beneath the battery tray, cleaned them and installed new body grounding...
It’s been a long time since I’ve posted but today I tackled two jobs I’ve been putting off for years. I fixed my driver side window and replaced the lock actuator. After reading multiple posts and watching YouTube videos I found it easiest to remove the entire window carrier and lock actuator...
Well…technically not all done in a day but I changed out the Koni FSD’s in the rear of my 04 Jetta TDI PD for Koni Special Active shocks. I had already done the fronts but had to order new shock bump stops as the old one were pretty crumbly. The FSD’s lasted about 11 years and had not failed per...
I had the unfortunate (fortunate no fire) to develop a pin-hole size leak in the fuel line coming from the tandem pump to the metal fuel line running across the front of the engine (2004 Jetta BEW). I did have a warning, oily diesel smell coming into the cabin and from driver side wheel wheel. I...
I installed a set of Koni FSD’s about 80k miles and 11 years ago on my on PD Sedan. I started noticing the car would loose it’s composure over bumpy or irregular roads and soft. There were no strut leaks, no bottoming out, abnormal tire wear or noticeable sag and the car performed pretty good at...
I've had KONI FSD's installed for about 11 years/60 k miles on my 04' Jetta. No rust issues in SO Cal but rough roads take a toll. I noticed the cars steering is not as tight and that my strut bushings are probably bad as the gap is pretty large.
Is it likely the FSD's are shot at this time or...
When I changed the struts I found even with the metal nerd tool I just didn’t have enough spread to get my struts to fully slide in. I wedged a penny between the spreader bit and wall of the spindle which gave me just enough extra spread to allow the struts to seat.
04 Jetta TDI O2 Sensor...
I had a problem passing CA emissions and found out my O2 sensor was bad. I changed the sensor and drove a bit to get all the readiness tests to reset. Finally passed test. I noticed the idle was greatly improved after changing the sensor. Much smoother, less vibrations.
Fits the Bill in Many Ways...
I like the Mark IV Jetta body design. It’s simple, practical and still looks good even today. Surprisingly, at least to me, with just a few suspension upgrades (solid control arm bushings, better shocks) it handles pretty darn good for a “economy car”. If you get a...
04 Jetta BEW Thermostat Change
I changed the thermostat and holder yesterday. My car took a long time to warm up, was giving a P0128 code and the overall performance was down. The mileage per gallon was also down. I replaced it with a factory thermostat. The car warms up like it should and runs...
While I was changing the oil, I noticed the drivers side area near the inner CV joint was a trail of grease. The joint boot was split. I had another complete axle available, replaced the bad one and will fix it later.
Cleaned MAF...
I cleaned both MAF’s using CRC MAF Cleaner. Definite improvements noted on how the cars run. Improved power delivery and smoother shifts.
Leak Under Cowl...
If your car has a sunroof it could be clogged drains, if not (at least on my 04) the leak could be from around a plastic cover beneath the drivers side of the plastic cowl. There is a post on the site that covers it as well. There is a plastic covert hat houses electrical...
Had some slight rain and found a leak by driver side footwell coming from above the dead pedal. Having done this before, I went ahead and re-sealed the electrical cover under cowl. I also cleaned out a bucket of leaves and dirt from beneath the cowl and from behind the lower fenders.
