If it was me I would inspect the wiring and connections to the EGT sensors and get a high impedance meter and compare the EGT sensors to each other. That would be a start. Maybe look at the two sensors on your VCDS and compare them temperature wise from start up to full car operating temp.

Yep, the safety kit that came with the car from VW has jumper cables in it. I know that I have jumped many a battery for folks over the years. Put that karma in the bank for future use as needed.
