Of course the Prius is pretty much just a straight gasser on the hwy. The new diesels with manual trans will do the Prius under steady state driving conditions...
I have an 02 passat with only ABS. If you push the car hard into a corner and loose traction while braking the ABS will kick in. When this happens you loose your brakes! With ESP the car will know it's in a cornering and braking condition and let you use your brakes. With my car I cannot count...

Soon Shell Rotella 5W40 synth oil will carry a CI-4 rating. Either oil is a good product.

This has been quoted since I bought my TDI last January. Even the spec sheet on rotella.com says CH-4. I'll believe it when I see it on the bottle.

Oh why can't VW make something for more then 5 passengers with a normal sized diesel engine?

Sounds like you need to wait for the VW Sfero! It will probably have a v6 or v8 tdi option. I like the rear mounted Maserati transaxel. It's price point target will be somewhere...

As usual elected officials don't get it. If they want to encouage diesel fuel usage. They need to lower the road tax on it. Then the consumer will demand more diesel powered vehicles and industry will find a way to meet the consumer demand and EPA requirements.

Actually the new V-10 TDI has an aluminum block and a cast-iron carrier for the main bearing. The cylinders have some kind of plating to provide a hard surface for the rings to ride against. I guess the 5-cyl TDI will be basically 1/2 of the V-10. It will have a gear driven cam drive to support...
