I agree that 2mpg isn't worth my head and ears feeling like they're going to burst tooling down the highway. Riding in town with the windows down, ac off, may be a slight advantage, but on the highway it seems keeping those windows up, ac on, and my sanity is the better choice...and better aero.

My sister-in-law used to have the '01 Beetle. It was great vehicle, with good mileage. However, these engines can get hammered fast if being put through the paces by a difficult driver. Great cars, though.

That's a good looking car. And, yeah, short shift...there's a bigger difference than most people realize.
