Are you still driving your TDi?

Still driving the 03 wagon. Should turn 600K shortly. Rust is the main issue, bad all around, might scrap the car this year. Just waiting for something major to go like the reman 01M which has lasted far longer than the original.

Wagon owners: how well/quickly does your rear defrost work?

I'd say mine works fine. Takes about 5 minutes before you see it starting to work. What I really miss is the electrically heated windshield on my 90 Grand Marquis. Holy smoke did it ever work well, never had to scrape the windshield in almost ten years.

Whats it worth/feeler thread 03 Jetta Wagon, 260k, $4000 in new parts

FWIW, I would read that ad with the description of the tune and the PP 520 nozzles as you blew the motor by driving the sh!t out of the car. Whether it's true or not doesn't matter, it just seriously lowers what I would pay. As mentioned above, the cost of the parts is irrelevant, it's what is a...

How many of you are still rocking a MK4 as your DD?

Still driving the 03 wagon with 527K as the DD, although now that I'm retired it's not racking up the mileage any longer. Body is starting to go in a few places where the paint has rubbed off, no holes or anything though. Wife would like something easier to get into, but I figure I'll keep it...

Who has Diesel cans at home?

I have three of those yellow 20L diesel jugs. I almost never use them for the Jetta though, they're for my other diesel vehicles. It's just a lot faster to use the Jetta to ferry the jugs to town to fill them than to drive either my Case 580K backhoe or my IH 444 tractor to the fueling station...

    Thank you

lol, that's funny saying "fuel economy" with the words "Ram Hemi". My 1500 Hemi gets about 11mpg with a loaded stock trailer. Maybe 18mpg empty. Dodge claims something stupid like 25mpg empty, it's not even close to that. At max load, it's down to around 7mpg, but it's working hard then, foot...

    VW Settles for 14.7 Billion!

I recall reading that it was rather miniscule and the comment was 40x nothing is still nothing. Still, cue the outrage.

    Finally turned over

No, I didn't. Basically on cruise control at 95kmh for four hours each day. Yours might have gone longer, I mean I'm at 270K on the reman. Repairs that I recall were the tranny@232($5600), the turbo@320 ($2300), alternator ($900) which failed after a week, replaced again under warranty, all...

    Finally turned over

The Jetta is like those CF-18's you read about that need 10 hours of maintenance for every hour they fly. If you stay on top of it and always keep it fixed, it's a good car. But if you don't, then a lot of things start to go wrong with it in a short time, if you're really putting the miles on it.

    Finally turned over

By good, I mean it's never broken down and stranded me anywhere, and it's always run fine, no sputtering etc. It seems a little too finely engineered though, too many little things go wrong that always need fixing. The motor is ok, just everything else seems weak, plastic gears and stuff. It...

    Finally turned over

The transmission went at 232,000km. It engaged fine, but it slipped like crazy after the 2-> 3 shift and had mad flares doing it. The dealer tech said the carrier plate (?) was really damaged, something he'd never seen. I was pretty surprised that the new transmission had almost as bad a flare...

    Finally turned over

Snapped this yesterday: Bought the car in 2005 for $22K. I guess diesels were hot that year, there were only four wagons for sale in the auto trader, and only one was an automatic. Since I was in Toronto at the time, I took the auto over the stick because I didn't want to put up with the...

    So el echeapos of ontario

Well Tasso I guess you had a worse lemon than I did. The car was an ok price I suppose but paying for dealer maintenance for a dozen years has far exceeded the price of the car. I don't know that it was a total waste though. I've got 498,000 km on it, never broken down anywhere and had pretty...

    Disabling DRLs

GM had them long before the 90's. I had auto-on headlights on my 1964 Cadillac Fleetwood. I forget now what the thing was called, something-Sentinel as best I can recall. Vacuum tubes were used in the detector, although the radio was solid-state. It also auto-dimmed the high beams, although it...
