    Diagnosing Phone Connection Problem

My daughter just acquired a 2012 Jetta 2.5 with non-functioning Bluetooth. Initially VCDS could not see the BT module but after resetting, it became visible. However when selecting PHONE, the radio just displays "No user connected" and vehicle BT does not show up in a search from the phone. I...

    Radio "SAFE" Message won't clear

Yes, that worked. Got the "1000" after an hour or so and was able to enter the code. Radio now fully functional!

    Radio "SAFE" Message won't clear

Thanks for the confirmation that will probably solve the problem. I had to take the radio out and put in another one temporarily because my wife is taking the car for the day tomorrow. I'll try to get the code in after leaving it powered for an hour tomorrow night.

    Radio "SAFE" Message won't clear

I have the code ready to go but I can't enter it until "SAFE" changes to "1000". I am now suspecting there were some repeated failed attempts with the wrong code before I acquired the radio, will have to try leaving the radio on for an hour to see if that helps.

    Radio "SAFE" Message won't clear

Radio started detecting speaker and antenna faults then began cutting out, presumably because of perceived shorted speakers. I confirmed the car components and wiring weren't at fault by swapping in a different radio, which worked perfectly. I bought a replacement radio from a wrecker, but...

Poor AC performance - problem solved!

I did try a fin comb, but it didn't have fine enough teeth for this condenser. I did remove the stone guards first (just pull straight out on the clips that hold them in place). I wrapped the screening around them when I put them back. I was also concerned that the pressure washer might make...

Poor AC performance - problem solved!

Thought I’d pass along my recent experience troubleshooting air conditioning that was not producing very cold air on my 2010 Golf. Last summer I had it recharged and there’s no sign of leakage since then, but cooling performance was still not good. I rechecked the charge with a single-gauge...

    Noise after Timing Belt Change

Thanks for the confirmation - I would have been surprised to find I'm the first one to ever do this. It's unfortunate that the timing belt enclosure allows enough clearance for it to go on the wrong side of that roller!

    Noise after Timing Belt Change

I'm referring to the lower small roller between the crankshaft and tensioner, not the one at the top. I believe the belt was on the left (rear) side of it the first time. Can't be absolutely sure, because I didn't notice the routing error before I removed it to troubleshoot, but I'm pretty...

    Noise after Timing Belt Change

I'm assuming that I installed the belt on the rear side of the small roller, such that the teeth were running on the surface of the roller and that's what made the whining noise. I'm very surprised how easy it was to make the mistake.

    Noise after Timing Belt Change

I won't be able to provide a sound clip, because the noise isn't there anymore. When I was reinstalling the belt, I found that it had a tendency to go on the outside of the lower small roller. I suspect that's what must have happened the first time and I somehow overlooked it. I'm sure I had...

    Noise after Timing Belt Change

Yes, pointer was aligned with the notch and I thought that I checked it was still there after I rotated the crank a couple of times. Today it was a bit toward the loose side though. I'm going to pull the harmonic balancer tomorrow and make sure everything looks good at the bottom end, then...

    Noise after Timing Belt Change

Just changed the TB on my daughter's 2003 Jetta @ 300K km. I installed the HEPU kit with new rollers and water pump. This is the second TB change I have done on this car, and I have done several other A4s so I'm familiar with the procedure. I had no problems during the work but after I...

    Clutch Issue

So the problem was the clutch plate. 50% of the lining had separated on one side and got jammed under the pressure plate. That's why the fork was more depressed than it should have been. It had actually rubbed on the surface of the pressure plate when the clutch pedal was pressed, but the...

    Clutch Issue

Clutch has never been apart in the time the car has been in my family (11 years, and odo now at 320K km). Slave showed no signs of leakage, and pedal was solid when I blocked the output rod. Surface of the fork is about 1" inside the opening, is that outside normal tolerance? It does seem that...

    Clutch Issue

Looking for some advice for a problem on my daughter's 2002 Jetta. She reported clutch pedal occasionally sticking, with stalling and difficulty engaging/disengaging gears. After a few days, the car became undriveable. Brake fluid level seemed OK, so I ruled out a leaking clutch slave...

P2015 Fix - the right way

I stand corrected - by myself! I tried the Dieselgeek stop on the manifold I had removed, and the motor did behave itself after all. I realize now that it's important to clear all the ECU codes before activating the flap motor with VCDS, otherwise it won't work properly. Codes are set if the...

P2015 Fix - the right way

I for one agree that the motor can be a problem. My manifold did experience stop wear to a position of 0.304V, but I found excessive resistance (68 ohms) across the motor terminals compared to just a few ohms on a functional motor on the other TDI I own. When the motor is activated to close...

    MK6 brake job

Rear brake caliper slider pins When I disassembled the rear brakes on my 2010 Golf Wagon, I found the pin with the ribbed rubber sleeve was in the top location. I checked with my local dealer who confirmed that this is the correct configuration, not the one described above. However I'm...

Does my 2010 have an electric Aux heater?

So far no success. On the 2010, I tried to open module 7D with VCDS and got "No response from controller". Then I added it to the Installed List in the CAN gateway, which just resulted in fault 00483 (Control Module for Auxiliary Air Heater 004 - No Signal/Communication) in Modules 09 and 19...
