Thanks for the input.
Here in metro Philly the price is now up to $5.89 / gal - over $0.80 greater than premium gas!!! But I can’t stop driving my Golf TDi…
Not really an option….
I feel your pain! I commute ~ 300 miles to work per week and until the recent price increases I was still feeling good about my decision to rejoin the diesel family - instead of paying a premium for an immature, unsafe (fires) technology that is not as clean overall as they would have you...
Thanks for sharing that.
This article pretty much answers my question and clears things up for me.
Sounds pretty ugly….
Sort of like Climate Crisis feedback loops - and no end in sight….
SMH…
Yeah - I picked up my “unicorn” (Golf MkVII TDi SEL 6-spd) last year after a national search - having realized that I screwed up selling my cherry 2012 Sportwagen TDi back to VW after Dieselgate….
Found it in the Chicago ‘burbs” and flew out there during the pandemic to get it! Driving it home...
For those of you that follow this stuff closer than I - why is it that years after the new “clean diesel” reformulation / accompanying infrastructure support changes that diesel pricing is STILL significantly higher than gasoline? Diesel used to be around the price of “unleaded plus”, but is now...
see my reply below...
my new baby is a Mk7 2015 Golf TDi SEL 6-spd with ~ 75k.
Roman said he could tell it was ready for the TB replacement...
He also did the brake fluid for me as he said it is a neglected important job that VW calls for after three years and every two years there after. He...
thanks for posting the contact info for Roman! He’s a cool guy, obviously knows what he’s doing, and cares about doing a good job at a fair price. I am certainly going to give him more of my business in the future now that I again own a TDi 😊👍😎
Trying to understand why after the “recoup costs” period following the reformulation to ultra low sulfur diesel that given the trucking industry’s political influence things have not stabilized nationally?!
PLEASE educate me! Thanks.

Thanks for being a "white knight" for this newbie and saving me some archive legwork :)
I guess I'll focus on the Jetta TDi; too bad since the Passat is roomier. I like the Jetta body style better anyway.... :)
Thanks for the advice.
I had read that some had issues with them (MSN Carpoint) - but the overwhelming majority were very happy with the car...
Of course, I would defer to your experience and knowledge as a TDi member....
Yes - I just saw an '04 Passat GLS TDi advertised on Autotrader for ~$13K. When I expressed interest in it, the dealer informed me that it was sold.
As an aside - do you feel that the 2.0L Passat TDi engine is as superior to the 1.9L Jetta TDi engine as the specs lead one to believe? The...
Please forgive this newbie question -
WHY has VW not seen fit to offer a TDi Jetta / Passat with 4Motion in the states??!!
With the popularity of Subie Outbacks in the Northeast, I would think that a Passat TDi 4Motion would be a BIG seller for VW in the Midwest and Northeast.
Actually, I...
