From the sound of your video it does sound like what I experienced, cam and cam follower (hydraulic lifter) clash.
@Lug_Nut describes perfectly how it gets to this point.
Somewhere I have a few photos of what it looks like and can't find them right now, but it should be pretty obvious once you...
Remove the valve cover and check the hydraulic lifters and cam, the sound you described could potentially be a bad lifter which will eventually destroy the camshaft and ultimately the head, if not the whole engine. This happened to my B4 with an 1Z engine.
If you can, record and post the sound...
Way back when a lot of use were using biodiesel I seem to remember a lot of discussion about this exact topic, but I don't remember the numbers. Might be worth doing a googe search of this forum rather than just using the built-in search.
I have an complet parts car available, which I am NOT parting it out (the whole car is available only,) but it looks like you're in Michigan and I'm in California.
That's a pretty amazing tool, I just looked up the number on the power supply for my laptop and it told me exactly what it is with photos. It's not the first time I've tried AI, but perplexity AI surprised me as a search tool. Thanks!
If you take it on a road trip with an 18 year old timing belt (shelf life is 7 years) you are going to be sorry. Regardless of what that belt looks like, it's way beyond overdue, it's very likely that you'll destroy the engine on that road trip.
Test from my old media seems to still work just fine. Thanks for this post, but why does my old photo end up so small?

I'd ask this question in TDI 101 general questions, or just advertise it and see what happens, I seriously doubt there is much of a difference between Texas and New Mexico as far as sales go.
