    Quaife Peloquin or Wavetrac

The problem with front wheel drive cars and slippery boat ramps is the weight transfer to the rear tires..... I've never used my car for launching or retrievning watercraft, but I am very happy with the Peloquin.

    Differences in fuel sending units?

Cliff notes on replacement: 1) The electric clip took more time to get off than getting the sending unit out of the tank. 2) If you have a full tank of fuel, you might want to consider draining out 5 gal or so. While you can take the sending unit out without making a mess, putting it back in...

    Differences in fuel sending units?

Thanks guys! To be on the safe side I will inspect the new part and make sure the pick up line has a larger hole in it too, even if I have to enlarge it and even if there is no check valve, if it has the triangle in it, I will drill that out too. As long as I have the new part in hand, and it's...

    Differences in fuel sending units?

2003 ALH Wagon, still same one in the signature. When it's cold out (really cold) fuel is freezing and not getting to filter. Sending unit/pickup in tank is gunky after 290K. Look on the internet and see P/N 1J0-919-183H is the most current one. I really, really need one tomorrow so I ordered...

    Headlights for fog lamp mod

I didn't know that. There was no CD changer in the car. I swapped out the double DiN Monsoon for a single DIN, put EGT, boost and oil gauges in the open slot, and put a remote display for the Valentine radar detector in the CD slot. I'd post a picture but the "post a pic thingy" is broke. I...

    Headlights for fog lamp mod

whatnxt, that's good to know. I already have the vented inner fender on the car. You saved me some time in modifying them.

    Headlights for fog lamp mod

I also have e-code tails w/fog, but I had to run a wire to the rear for the left rear only fog. Why the fronts were pre-wired and not the rear I can't understand.

    Headlights for fog lamp mod

I've seen a lot of VW's with cloudy lenses. I am running real Hella e-codes and the lenses after 7-8 years are still clear without any cleaning on my part. Just a FWIW for people that are looking at headlights. The problem with the lower fogs for the TDI's is that the intercooler is located...

    Headlights for fog lamp mod

Maybe because my Jetta is a Wagon and they are made in Germany, not Mexico like the sedans?

    Headlights for fog lamp mod

I put in a European headlight switch (w/fogs) and Hella E-Codes that had the fogs. I didn't have to mess with the wiring harness at all.

'03 Wagon Rear Shocks (koni) are shot.

175,000 miles on mine (275,000 miles on the 2003 Jetta Wagon total) and noticed one rear shock leaking. just got off the phone with them. Since the individual shocks/struts are not available I asked them if I have to replace the whole set (all 4 corners). My car is sitting at the stock ride...

How bad did I screw the pooch?

Bio would be a good choice in the summer. With the temps that we see here during the winter, I have to wait. I have a source where I can get B100. :) While it's supposed to be in the low 30's for high temps here this week, next week the bottom is supposed to fall out of the thermometer and we...

How bad did I screw the pooch?

Yep! I'll run that continually until summertime now. Even after I get my fuel, it should help get the rest of the water out of the tank.

How bad did I screw the pooch?

Well, the shop called. It seems that I may have gotten a bad batch of fuel, as the fuel filter had a bunch of water in it. They changed the filter and it fired right up. Now since I only have 2 more filters on hand I need to order some more just in case, and make up a "on the road" fix-it kit...

How bad did I screw the pooch?

Jeez. :o Thanks for catching that. I'm suprised - it's been that way since 2004 and you're the first one to catch it. It's changed now.

How bad did I screw the pooch?

Thanks guys! I'll know more tomorrow (I hope). The car is in the shop now. To answer the questions 1) TB was changed 67K ago with 100K parts 2) 7/8 tank of fuel, running anti-gel additives. 3) Car had run approximately 50 miles that day with no signs of problems. 4) Still orig turbo, but...

How bad did I screw the pooch?

2003 Jetta Wagon. 267,800 miles. Driving on the highway 60 mph, car seemed to loose power for a second, regained it for about 1/4 mile then lost power and the engine died. I noticed a smoke cloud behind me either white or blue, I didn't pay attention because I was too focused in getting over and...

MKIV Jetta TDI Headlight Swap - Deal on Ebay?

"Basically Hellas" aren't the real deal. Reflector isn't the same quality, and I doubt the "glass" is either. I've had my real Hella's in since 2008 or 2009 and there is no sign of yellowing or hazing. If it was something to throw in there to up the value of the car if it was on the sales block...

Need new LRR tires, Energy MXV4 not available

I've never had hydroplaning issues or wet traction issues with the Michelin Energy's. Only when the tread depth was close to the wear bars did I notice any issues going thru standing water on the highway at 60+mph speeds.

Need new LRR tires, Energy MXV4 not available

The reason why I like the Energys is because I've had very consistent good mileage, but it all depends on my right foot. I have gotten 64+ mpg if I think about my right foot. Not all highway either, two of the tanks where I had 64 was stop and go to and from work - 37 miles each way.
