Once I receive my VW bribery check, I'm thinking about dumping the windfall back into my JSW to build my vision of the perfect wagon.
One thing that I haven't been able to find any good information about is running auxiliary power up to the roof. I want to throw a forward facing lightbar and...
For those of you that use the Travall barrier... can you use the fold down seat functionality for pass through cargo with the barrier still installed? Don't want to have to pull the barrier in and out every time I need the extra space...
Think it's time to relegate the pup to the trunk...
Herein lies the issue with this argument... If you define "better performance" as the ability to accelerate fastest from a dead stop, then I agree that 4 wheels turning all seasons will typically yield "better performance" than 2 wheels turning snow tires.
The part about "better handling...
My parents bought a Prius V last year... It eats your soul and you constantly find yourself wandering into oncoming traffic when you spot an 18 wheeler, just hoping for the opportunity to put yourself out of such numbing misery.
When leaving from work this evening (JSW sat all day), I noticed that a regen started literally within one block from startup. RPMs raised to 1k, aux cooling fans came on, all the tell tale signs of a regen... So I drove like I normally do with a regen, keeping rpm above 2k and staying away...
Thanks for the interesting read... The part I found most intriguing was the 3-5 yr time horizon they were considering in the study. Conventional wisdom leads you to believe that you need to keep a TDI for a long time and drive millions of miles to turn out favorably with regards to TCO compared...
I think a lot of it has to do with the weight of modern cars because of all the required safety equipment and impact standards imposed by the gubment... the P1800 curb weight was only 2500 lbs!
Extracting more power while simultaneously improving efficiency stresses components to the max...
Think you mean oversteer... Letting off the go pedal should induce the tail to rotate better because you are shifting the weight forward and reducing rear grip. You'd just get push understeer if you overcook the corner entry...
If you don't plan on upgrading to stiffer springs, than an...
Ding ding!
It's definitely an interesting question to consider though... I think with all the "cutting edge" technology, sensors, and modern day materials it wouldn't be possible to achieve 3 million miles in any modern vehicle. Nothing on our cars is simple or cheap to maintain or replace...
Well Jalopnik nominated the JSW TDI as their pick for the new car that would last 3 million miles:

Clearly they didn't do their research on TDIClub because they would know that the HPFP will explode after 30k miles unless...
Not so sure about that... I had a popping lower front subframe on my GTI after some dealer warranty work. They tried to blame the issue created by their incompetence on my RSB.
You are never immune...
Great advise right here... For heavy fwd cars, try a couple extra psi in the rear tires compared to the fronts to help minimize the understeer. Don't forget to bring a tire pressure gauge too because the psi will creep up as you put more heat into the tires. If you want to get a little more...
From a statistical relevance standpoint, I think it's difficult for either the pro or anti additives camp to hang their hat on conclusive evidence to support their opinions.
What percentage of overall TDI users employ additives? Who knows...
What percentage of overall TDI users happen to...
Just drive your TDI and enjoy it! The beauty of these cars is the happiness you can extract while driving like a complete degenerate, and still maintain decent mileage. I "only" average 37 mpg or so with 50/50 city highway driving with only 8k on my motor. But I'm always in the boost, launching...
Made the ride up from Houston to the Circuit of the Americas track outside Austin for the Grand-Am race on Saturday... Beautiful weather and spectacular racing! Wanted to share some photos:
Elevation change headed into Turn 1 (formation lap):
Mazda Skyactiv diesel entry... the crews...
It's supposed to limit speed and rpm to protect the HPFP and other components before the docks or dealer have an opportunity to inspect the vehicle. When my 2013 was delivered, the dealer needed to trailer my car from the Port of Houston because they couldn't drive it on public roads due to the...
I'm not sold on the dominance of the BMW powered DPs... Seemed to be a lot of commotion over the restrictors placed on the Chevy powered entries. Would like to see them level the playing field a little more.
