2005 NB TDI with mods, perfect Smyth Candidate, OH

Wow sorry to hear the Beetle got hit like that, but what is really weird is I haven't logged onto this site in years and for some reason I was thinking about the old Beetle and logged in today and learn of it's untimely demise. As Brendan said, the car was maintained to the letter when we had...

    Help me pick gauges

There was a time when I thought about doing a Rocket Chip Stage II for her on the car, but when she started the traveling job she needed the economy for the long interstate miles and so I left it stock. Maybe its time for you to equip it w/ RC Stage II now...

    Switching to Rotella T6 5w40

Does this mean my using it for a 10,000 mile OCI in our BEW is a bad idea? Wasn't the original Castrol TXT 5W40 505.01 oil also a Group III hydro isomerized base oil? Pretty sure the Castrol SLX Professional OE 5W30 505.01 is a Group III also.

    Gasser rant (my other car)

Doesn't surprise me. I'd guess that 20 - 25% alcohol might be close to what that last tankful I got had in it. I just finished running that tank down to just before the low fuel light would come on, in order to get rid of as much of it as possible before refilling. I refilled at another...

TDI Maintenance...or How I am getting tired of maintaining my VW's

That makes two of us. Subaru sells a boxer engine diesel in the Euro and Asian markets, just not in North America. The main stumbling block for the NA market is 1. emissions compliance, and 2. sold as manual transmission only which has low market appeal here. And as has also been said, Subaru's...

    wow.. just WOW.

Not sure how the pan is designed on the '09's but on our '05 the Pela extractor doesn't get all the oil out of the sump. I have to pull the drain plug after the Pela starts sucking air and then about 1/2 quart or so comes out the drain hole. Arrzilla you might want to pull the drain plug next...

Thanks Bruce. No skidplate but she needs a steel boiler plate under there the way she drives. The OE plastic undercover is kind of busted up on the passenger side from her somehow running up onto one of those cement front tire stop things that are at the head of each parking space in some...

Ah, the doggie leash method. I actually have your doggie collar. I'll need to eyeball the lower boost hose attach environment at the turbo to determine if the Leash mod might be applicable down there. Also probably need to check at NAPA for the better boost hose seals. Thx guys.
