Well thank you all for your help here. Come to find out its a problem with the camshaft and lifters. ~$2500 for repairs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDWDgbH_n9E Video shows the same issue we're experiencing. Sounds exactly like this and has the same soot marks.
Ok, so I scanned with VAG-COM. Has a MAF sensor alarm (intermittent) so I am going to clear that to see if it starts working. James&Son were you able to see how its layed out in the Bentley? Open/closed? I cannot fathom how this thing works when the engine is running. The spring is pretty tough...
I will definitely take a look at that. I did notice some chafing on the tube that was disconnected from the back of the airbox but did not look to the front of the airbox. Do you happen to know if the spring loaded door is normally open?
This saga begins yesterday, on the last possible day to get my inspection done here in the 'dirty Jerz', though the 5 pack a day smoking habit of the car has been going on for longer. I have a few questions:
1) In the airbox is a spring loaded door. Mine is open. I remember on the 99-04...
I have a 99.5 Jetta which, after hitting a 2x2 on the highway causing my hubcap to disappear, looks a bit funny. They are the 15" ones with 10 holes around the edges and the VW logo in the middle. Anyone have a spare? I really only need one, but will work it out if I need to purchase a whole...
Well parking is going to cost you about 40$ per day in midtown. Depending on where you park of course. The Lincoln tunnel will drop you at 36th between 9th and 10th avenues. Take 36th to 8th avenue, and turn left (its a one way anyway) and then hang a right on 46th street. If you're staying at a...
The loopy light is the Glowplug light, tells you if the glowplugs are on..its a good thing. It also flashes when the brake lights are burned out OR if there is an issue with the brake light switch. So it serves dual purpose.
The seatbelts have a pyrotechnic charge in them to lock the belt in the event of an accident. If your 10 year old used enough force the belt could be locked permanently.
The only way to fix this is to replace the seatbelt assembly.
If your new OEM battery is not at least 650 CCA, then you've got a problem. I also took mine to a VW dealer and they installed a new OEM battery. The problem was they installed the OEM battery for a 2.0L engine. So it did not have enough juice to turn over the TDI in the cold.
I don't know how many of you watch this show, but I love it. Here is a great clip from one episode.

I just cannot fathom why this part has had to be replaced four times. Two of the switches I have received failed on me. Once while on the highway and the engine dumped into the limp mode at 1200rpm...That was stellar. Oh well. I'm just going to hope - probably in vain - that this is the last...
So in July in between brake light switch recall's 3 and 4 I had to have the brake light switch replaced because, lo and behold, it failed. Then in November I received a letter from VW stating that the part had been recalled for the 4th time! WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE!?! I called VW and complained...
