Is the Golf Tech Package worth it?

Why should the majority of drivers have to settle for reduced visibility because you are part of a small minority with overly acute eyes? When halogen lights first hit the market, people had all the same complaints you're voicing about HIDs. Sometimes you need to take a step back and look at...

2009 CR TDI DSG MPG Thread.

Try getting away from the instant mpg and use the trip mpg. The instant almost gives you too much feedback too quickly and you end up lifting off too much, then needing to get back into the pedal to get the lost speed back. Smoothness is a big key. In my opinion, especially when you take the...

2009 CR TDI DSG MPG Thread.

It may "seem" that people are driving the same way, but it's the small details that make a big difference, such as lifting early when you see traffic slowing down ahead, getting off the gas early and coasting up to stop signs, carrying speed through turns, adjusting acceleration to not have to...

Time to replace tires on Cup Car

Yeah I'm in NY and deal with the same situation of really not getting a ton of snow, but summer tires definitely not being a good idea for any kind of frozen precipitation, or even giving much grip in the dry when it's cold. I usually prefer a summer tire for 3 seasons and a dedicated snow, but...

Time to replace tires on Cup Car

Just want to clarify that the DW and DWS are very different tires despite their similar names. The DWS are an outstanding all season tire but like every all season, they are a compromise to maintain usability at lower temperatures and longer treadwear demanded by most all season users. The DW...

Time to replace tires on Cup Car

I don't have a cup car, but I've been extremely happy with Continental Extreme Contact DW tires on a JCW MINI (215/45/17) and BMW 335i (245/35/19 & 275/30/19). They are a max performance summer tire that's extremely comfortable & quiet with excellent grip and very good tread wear for the...

    2012 JSW - HPFP Failure Day 1?!

Yes, those intercooler pipe clamps adjust themselves and re tighten properly all by themselves during break-in if they're misaligned at the factory. Going to full throttle making an improperly attached boost tube clamp to come loose is a very possible cause of the OP's problem. The point is...

    2012 JSW - HPFP Failure Day 1?!

I'm pretty sure that you can go to full throttle at any engine speed and can certainly let off or shift before you pass 3800 rpm. I don't get why everyone is so scared of full throttle. I've always broken my engines in moderately hard (once at proper operating temp) and have never had a...

    Silver 2012 VW Golf TDi

The HID(Bi-Xenon) which include the LED daytime running lights are part of the Tech Package on the 2012 Golf in the U.S. They're not standard here. Not sure about in Canada where Brandon is from. Do they still get the Porto wheels in Canada for 2012? In the U.S. the 2012 TDIs all come with...

    tdi gas mileage/ 1/4 tank..

I think the 2 gallon tank hyperbole is a bit ridiculous, but MPG is very important. Say you go to the opposite extreme and have a 40 gallon tank. Would it matter that you have a 600 mile range if you're getting 15mpg? You'd only have to fill up twice a month, you'd just pay $150+ to do so...

    Performance Upgrades: Which First?

I'll second the recommendation of Koni Yellows. They offer some of the best daily driver enhanced damping and control without adding harshness. I'm a huge fan. I'd love to find a suspension guru who can match me up some Swift springs to go with them as my first upgrade next. Anyone know if...

    DSG vs. 6 speed?

Why exactly couldn't you shift at lower RPM if you were to have a manual? I'm not sure I understand why you or any other driver wouldn't shift at lower revs if you are well aware that it will yield better mileage. It's not like it's more difficult.

No AM radio reception w/ RNS-315

Mine wasn't that bad, but the AM reception is definitely weak. I could pick up the major stations but the reception was much weaker than I've ever noticed in other cars. I was essentially just setting the AM presets that I'll probably never or very rarely use, so it wasn't a big concern for me...

    DSG vs. 6 speed?

I just picked up a 2012 Golf TDI with the DSG after having a preference for manual transmissions for many years. Sure, the manual may be able to get you a little better mpg if you do hypermiling and try to remove any excess usage of fuel (aka fun) from your driving. I'm on my first tank with...

What is the farthest trip you've taken by car

I did Long Island, NY to Dallas, TX to Flagstaff, AZ and back to Long Island over the course of 6 days. That was in my Trailblazer SS. Sure would have saved a lot if I had the TDI at that time, although it was in December of 2008 when gas was in the $1.50 - $1.80 gallon range for a very short...

    Key

I've got 2 fob keys and a valet key on my 2012, so I don't believe they've changed that and you should have gotten one. I'd question the dealer about it.

    Key

Thank you for being so smart. Although not smart enough to read my subsequent post which already added the same info with more detail; and lacking faith in everyone to have enough common sense to understand that the car is going to need you to carry the fob, otherwise anyone could just walk up...

    Key

The fob/key is still the same but you can leave it in your pocket. Just grab the door handle to open and it unlocks. Push button to start. There's little indents on the outside of front door handles that you just press your thumb to when exiting to lock the car.
