Clutch questions for the 1.9 TDI

I now have 321,xxx miles on the car and have finally gotten time and parts to do the clutch. I know y’all are probably going to laugh, but I would love recommendations for CORRECT gear oil for this transmission. Is there an aftermarket one (like Amzoil or Royal Purple) that meets all of the VW...

    Leaking Sunroof

Greetings! I’ve been chasing all of the leaks my MK4 Jetta has embraced. I solved the leak under the dash, addressed the clogged drain lines from the sunroof, but the gasket is cracked and not making a good seal. I’m planning to replace the sagging headliner, but think I should fix the gasket...

    ECU Question

Jmodge, that’s great news! I was trying to over think things, I guess. I was stressing for nothing!

    ECU Question

I guess this question will sound uniformed, but here goes. I have a 2002 Beetle ALH with an automatic. I want to swap it to a manual. I’d the engine ECU able to be retained or must I also find a manual ECU for the conversion? Thank In Advance, Tank

FS, 2003 Jetta Wagen, ALH 266,000 miles, Northern Alabama, $4,811

Isn’t it just my luck!?!?! I stumble across the exact car I’ve been hunting for several years and I don’t have any $$$! I would be on my way to Northern Alabama with my truck and trailer right now if I had the $$$. I’m gonna keep checking on this ad as I try to find some Franklins!

    FSBO/Swap Ads?

I’m an idiot! I found the answer and just can’t figure out how to delete this.

    Savannah ga area

I wish those meet-ups weren’t on the weekend, so I could go! I work Weekend shift at Gulfstream Service Center and will have to miss anything on the weekend. Also, as an aside, I was driving home a few Friday’s ago and a guy with Effingham plates passed me in a sweet (and quite quick) Silver...

Who has mega miles on a TDI

I am the third owner of my 2001 5speed Jetta. It currently has 317,7xx miles on the clock. I am about to do a timing belt kit and will need to do a clutch soon also (I have almost all of the service records since new and cannot find any record of having a clutch replaced!). I did an EGR delete...

    Check engine light issues

Have you entertained the idea of EGR delete? I did a simple EGR block off, but have not gotten a ECU reflash to eliminate the CEL.

    Clutch

Thanks everyone for the info. I must have been thinking about the European Market 6 speed. Probably cost prohibitive, anyway. Any suggested vendors for the 5th Gear upgrade?

    Clutch

OilHammer, is there any truth to the story I heard about being able to swap in a Performance clutch and 6 speed from a VR6 or perhaps a GTI? I doubt there’s any truth to it, but a 6 speed would be sweet. If I understand correctly, it has a better final drive ratio and I’m into a little more fuel...

    Car won't start troubleshooting

I had a ton of issues with my daughter’s New Beetle. She bought it as a non-runner with such a massive fuel leak it quit running on the previous owner...luckily it didn’t catch on fire. I got the car home, resealed the pump and got caught by the noob issue of being out of the alignment hole on...

    Alternator issues

Ive been running this second reman unit from Auto Zone for several months now. It’s plugging right along. Thanks for all of the help, suggestions and assistance with finding the right parts to fix my old stuff!

    Fuel filter O-rings -- important!

Eureka! It turns out the no start issue is a simple electrical problem and not related to my fuel pump reseal in any way! Turns out it’s a simple relay (109), and apparently it is a common failure item. It feeds the glow plug controller, tachometer signal...and it controls the fuel shut-off...

    Fuel filter O-rings -- important!

Replaced the fuel return line from injection rail to top of pump, as well as o-rings on Fuel Filter “Mickey Mouse” fitting I also replaced the feed line from filter to pump along with screw clamps on all connections. Battery had gone dead from sitting (been recovering from abdominal surgery for...

    Fuel filter O-rings -- important!

Andy bees, I just did a complete IP reseal. No leakage remains. Which is why I’m a bit baffled. I just had abdominal surgery, so getting out there and replacing the o-rings will be weeks away. Powder Hound, I just put 5 gallons of fresh Diesel in the tank. Unless there is a blockage in the...
