No, that is not what I wanted to say.
Here are the specs of certain 505.01 oils taken from VOAs:
Castrol TXT 5w40 505.01 13.26 @ 100C
QS 505.01 5w40 505.01 12.92 @ 100C
Castrol 505.01 5w30 505.01 12.48 @ 100C
TDT 5w40 14.7 @ 100C
Here are the definitions of what makes a 30 weight & 40 weight...
From what I remember, it is at least a mid weight 5w40. It is thicker than a VW 505.01 5w40 oil.
I recall looking at a lot of UOA's of the VW 505.01's 5w40, that had sheared down to a 5w30 weight after a few thousand miles of usage and then as the soot built back up in the oil, they moved...
The 5w30 505.01's are almost a 40 weight. If there was such a number they would be close to 5w38. The 5w40 505.01's were barely a 40 weight oil. They were almost a 30 weight oil.
My theory is that VW wanted to stock one oil for both their gassers and diesels here in the US. So they went...
Ya'll were right all along. EGR wouldn't hold a vacuum.
Disappointed to know that 2 years into ULSD and over a year with a bad EGR, the intake could still look that bad.
Back from dead in case anyone searches on this code. A few weeks ago, I bought a used egr. Upon taking off my old egr, I discovered that I was wrong about my intake not being clogged. I cleaned my intake and no more code.
Mine started doing this after the glow plug recall. Especially when cold.
I think VW's ECU reflash screwed up something that causes this.
I didn't have any broken plugs. I think it is unrelated to your oil loss problem.
You will lose more than the repair cost in depreciation if you sell the car now.
SS's bad luck happened at 100K more miles than you have now. Look at it this way. He did practically no maintenance and got almost 200k miles out if it.
FS: Front License Plate Mount - This is from my B5.5 Passat. It was never mounted and is still in the original plastic from the dealer. $20 + shipping.
Sloppy:
Weren't you the one that cleaned your egr with carb cleaner and blew up your turbo? Didn't you have VW pick up the bill for that under warranty even though it was your fault?
Also I'd wager that VW would think that almost 200k on a Passat TDI was a job well done on their part. We as...
That sucks man.
I would have called it day at 189k when the BS went out. If VW designed a BS that would crap out then, there probably are some other parts with that same end date as well.
I've always heard old timers say not to change transmission fluid in a high mileage car if has never been...
Fellows:
I sold my Passat wagon today. A third kid due in a couple months sealed the deal for me. Passat went to a family in my neighborhood that wanted an upgrade from their high mileage Jetta TDI wagon. They know about the potential for the B/S issue and have some money set aside in case...
Bump up.
I have a similar issue as the OP and it started after my glowplug ecm reflash this summer.
The car idles fine when it first starts. A couple blocks later while stopped at at a stop sign, the engine rpms blip up a just a little and I feel my engine shudder. The rpms then go back...
OH, thanks for reasonable stats on the odds of it breaking before 100k.
I think you are the exception rather than the rule regarding keeping a car indefinitely. Folks talk a big game about keeping a car forever, but when that same car they've sat in for 5 years starts looking pretty shabby...
