2005 (Mk4) VW Jetta TDI 1.9l Turbo Diesel

Might be interesting finding a mechanic. My son moved down to St Pete/Tampa a year ago with his 2005 (A5) Jetta TDI and says diesels aren't popular in FL. He says he should drive it back to PA to sell it.
Charged up battery to 13.25 V (40 degrees). Removed fuse #42. 17 hours later measured 13.07 V (30 degrees). Agree circuit #42 was the problem? Comments welcome.
(Just remembered I didn't lock the car for those 17 hours so I should probably repeat test.)
I'm having similiar battery drain problem explained here. http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=454815
How do you test the alternator for a drain? Where do I place the DMM leads?
- (A year ago before these problems, both left-side lock mechanisms were replaced due to an "open door" problem. Door issue seems fixed. Car was being used several times a week.)
- Three year old Duracell battery replaced (Sam's Club tester won't even print), 2+ months later it's dead again (<...
Got my car back from Roman at the below address. Highly recommend him. He does only what is needed (and what you approve) and charges a reasonable amount for parts. He uses high quality parts. He replaced some front suspension pieces, did a rear brake job which freed the sticky brakes, replaced...
Started with it thinks the door is open all the time. So the dome light is always on and "your door is a jar" ding is constantly going. This seems to have gone away for now (intermittent). Understand it is probably the micro switch in the door latch mechanism. However, the auto windows don't...
I've updated the "by state" list for GPS to include address changes and new additions between pages 168-175 in this thread. (My original post is on page 167 at http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=130044&page=167.) The POI (Points Of Interest) file can be loaded into a GPS such as a...
I'll check
I'll ask on the www.poi-factory.com site about this issue. When logged into the site, I can see the file when clicking on the link I've posed. When not logged into the site, then I see my post (i.e. my description) on POI Factory but it says to login/register to view the file.
What...
Guessing you probably need to register at the POI Factory site to get access to download a file. If you own a GPS, it's a great site to get free POI files and learn more about your GPS.
That aside, the TDI photo site doesn't allow zip files so my upload failed. Maybe someone knows the secret.
I've taken the "by state" list on the first page and created a POI (Points Of Interest) file which can be loaded into a GPS such as a Garmin, Tom Tom, etc. See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/43101. Hopefully that list on the first page is up-to-date and contains all addresses in this thread as...
Still got axle to replace (due to Japan business trip). With the inner joint being bad and causing a bad vibration (especially on a mild upgrade), is it harmful to drive 400+ highway miles before replacing axle? I may have a long trip this week and would love to take the TDI.
I have an 09A transmission too w/98k. I wasn't having any problems but flushed the trans. Drained the fluid, add ~3 qts, ran on street for a few minutes through the gears. Repeated everything. Final drain and added 3 qts (used 9 qts total). Used Amalie synthetic oil (<$6/qt)
Short Trips
New owner of 2005 Jetta TDI Auto and have 9 miles to work where car didn't reach operating temp. Hope I didn't make wrong choice buying TDI but sounds like I should have oil analyzed sooner. Running Rotella T5.
