The recall to my knowledge was to essentially detune the turbo in cold weather so it's not stressing so much on warm up. I don't have a vagcom or other device to check EGT temps but can say that I haven't observed any changes to the driving feel of the car since the update.
They do and total tour time is about 2 hours from beginning to end. Also, if take the tour then you can shop at the VW employee store and get their discount (I believe it's like 40% off anything in the store on stuff like hats, jackets, tshirts and other official gear). I did the tour last year...
Yeah, they announced a bi-turbo TDI engine last year but I believe it was for EU market. Not sure if we'll see that here anytime soon (at least for another 3 years)
I can hear it during idle though the road noise tends to muffle it especially with the radio on. I suspect it's easier to hear due to where it sits in the cabin.
I've heard the same sound on occasion with letting off or pressing the accelerator ending the sound. The times I've seen this occur is when it was raining/wipers engaged. ABS dry brake feature engaged? It's definitely a fluttering like sound, will record next time I hear it..
Mine had slight struggle this morning due to the cold (I'm in Atlanta also). Other than that, I've had no cranking issues (knock on wood) to date even with a HPFP replacement due to bad fuel sending sensor.
I do a slow fill to avoid foaming which takes me longer to fill but in the end allows me to squeeze more fuel in. I also park on a slight incline (I use the same station for fillup when I can).
