My golf did the same thing when I first got it. When reading this thread it reminded me of the issue and I realised it hasn't happened in a long time. I wonder if it gets better as the seals break in and allow the hatch to shut more easily?
Maybe putting some silicone lubricant on the seals...
Many cars have a free-rev limiter. This limits the RPM when in neutral or when the clutch pedal is pushed in but the car isn't moving. It varies From cR to car, but from my experience many cars have it. 2500 RPM is a bit low, but it is diesel, so it sounds like it's normal. I'll check mine...
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it's used for emission control in conjunction with the EGR system, not for modulation based on engine needs.
On topic, I only have 3,900 miles on my 2010 Golf so far, but I may check my intercooler hoses later today if I get a chance. I'll post the...
Actually, how it's throttled is everything in this situation.
In a gasoline engine car, your right foot is directly controlling the amount of air that is being allowed into the engine. The RPM is being controlled by the amount of air being allowed through the engine. The engine computer...
I did some searching and found a response someone got from Garmin about this question. The answer they got from Garmin was that the particular model in question (eMap) didn't calculate verticle speed at all. Garmin said that some of their units could calculate and display a vertical speed, but...
For all I know my van speedometer is just totally wack. Just pointing out what I've experienced with my particular GPS (old TomTom).
If there is some trait common to all GPS units that would prove it's more consistant/accurate than my van speedometer during elevation changes and around curves...
Only time I was ever pulled over was for doing 80MPH on a highway with a speed limit of 75MPH. Funny thing is, I'm not sure I ever even went 80MPH. My friend who I was with said I never did, but I suppose it's possible. Either way, 5 over in a 75 MPH zone. Plus, it was in a straight, fairly...
I am fairly certain my GPS doesn't compensate for altitude changes. I actually don't use it in my car, but I always have it in my work van. While it is very possible that the spedometer in my van is off a couple MPH, I have seen odd things that make me believe my GPS doesn't track altitude...
I've recently been test driving a lot of cars, and I drove both a Regal CXL and a Malibu, and I think the Regal seemed like a much nicer car. You can get the Malibu cheaper, but a Malibu with some options was close to the same price as the Regal, but not as well equipped. Just my thoughts about...
I've had this same issue, but on a different car. The problem was that the soft seal would stick slightly, mostly in cold weather, causing a creaking noise as things flex.
I bought some silicone spray lubricant from an auto parts store. It dries perfectly clear, doesn't leave a greasy...
I have been driving manual transmission for a number of years, however, I still stalled my Golf TDI a few times when I first got it, just because it was so different from what I was used to.
However, I got the hang of it in about a week and haven't stalled since. Once you get the hang of the...
I believe there is a chart on the Silverstar website. I would check that site before deciding to use Silverstar bulbs. The reason, is that this chart lists the average life of the bulbs (which varies by bulb model). While all Silverstars have a lower average life than standard bulbs, for some...
I previously had a Honda Civic coupe. For a while I had been considering switching to something four door, and possibly hatchback. I could never be the one to drive if more than two people were involved because nobody wanted to get in my back seat (assuming they even could). I also have hobbies...
Are you sure about that?
From the government website about this issue:
ABOUT TAX CREDITS
A tax credit is generally more valuable than an equivalent tax deduction because a tax credit reduces tax dollar-for-dollar, while a deduction only removes a percentage of the tax that is owed.
So, as I...
I will only comment since I owned a Civic of the affected year range for three years.
There were originally some failures (cracked blocks leaking coolant) at very low mileages. It wasn't long before Honda released a TSB acknowledging the issue and authorizing a block replacement if any car...
I know it's a bit off topic, but I know a bit about the issue with the Civics. The issue is a crack in the engine block that results in a coolant leak. If not noticed quickly enough, the leak can obviously lead to overheating and other damage. As mentioned, the issue has been going on since...
^ Glad you like your new ride too.
I must confess, I had some reservations about buying a Volkswagen. I've had very little experience with VW in my life, and it seems like a good portion of what little I had envolved people recommending others to steer clear of them for one reason or another...
I can't say for sure about that specific connector, but I know air bag systems often use yellow or orange wire loom/connectors/etc. I guess just to warn people not to tamper with or modify them.
Cool, glad you like your new TDI.
Most of my family lives 2+ hours away, and I make the trip on weekends often. Nothing compared to your 25hr each way trip, but it's still a 2-1/2 hour plus most times. No problems with the trip in my TDI.
How does it do at higher altitudes (assuming you...
I had EL400s on my last car (Honda Civic), also in a 205-55-16.
They only lasted 18,000 miles due to a rear camber arm issue (which was eventually fixed per a TSB). Because of the horrid wear patterns they were extremely noisy towards the end.
I replaced them with Michelin Hydro-Edge tires...
