I'm about to replace my turbo-charger and exhaust manifold. 1.) What tips and tricks do I need to know? 2.) Is it a huge job?

Engine oil level dropped more than 1 quart in 2 miles.

No power, strange sounds coming from the vicinity of the turbo and unbelievable amounts of engine oil smoke from the exhaust.

I don't know yet; haven't removed it for analysis. The mechanic won't get to it until early next week. I'll provide the autopsy results then.

It's official, the turbo's dead. No power and huge quantities of motor oil smoke.

You're correct, but this isn't a job for Vag-Com. It's a menu setting from the radio's front panel. Bentley describes it in their manual. Unfortunately my computer crashed recently and I haven't resurrected my Bentley installation yet.

I believe you're probably right. I'm aware that there are multiple ground points on the A4 body cars (somewhere in the dash behind the radio, near the transmission and the antenna base itself IIRC). There's probably some corrosion at one or more of these points. It won't hurt to make sure...
