    Mileage rules may get tougher

FlyTDI Guy, Shouldn't it be RouterTDI Guy? I filled up at the Union & CTR St. station on the way home. I did notice it was much smoother as the miles piled up. Also, much less smoke in the headlights behind me when I stepped on it. Thanks for the tip. You really do need to try biodiesel. I...

    Evil Beetle does biodiesel!

The way the BD knocks down the petro odor is pretty remarkable. When I fueled up with petro-D at the lower end of my tank of BD, it still just smelled faintly like hot oil in a pan. I figure I had maybe a B15 mix at that point. Do you get any light colored smoke at cold start idle?

Will mud flaps adversely affect mpg?

Maybe the next "war" will be about what brand of car wax provides the lowest drag, and allows that extra 1/10 of a mpg. I guess I will have to ignore my family and job, so I can get really involved in these important issues.

    Biodiesel fueling station in Seattle!!

When I went to Bend weekend before last. I stopped at Pacific NW biodiesel and fueled up with 12 gallons and no cetane boost. My observations: Cold starting did have a definite delay in ignition. Cold starting I experienced quite noticeable light whiteish smoke at idle, until engine temp came...

    Biodiesel fueling station in Seattle!!

Dante, I undertstand your point exactly. I am just saying there are a number of ways to encounter incomplete combustion. And that is the crux of the issue. I don't want Biodiesel to get a bad rap, when in most cases I believe it is a mechanical issue. Either from worn fuel system componentry...

    Biodiesel fueling station in Seattle!!

I did a search and found them. I also read the U of I study. It sounds like the quality and consistency of the fuel was questionable. I thought the one Dodge pick-up with fuel dilution was stated to have been idleing for long periods of time in very cold weather. In other words, low/no load and...

    Biodiesel fueling station in Seattle!!

Dante, On what forum did you read about the dilution issue? Was the Audi a TDI?I would be interested in reading about it. It seems like it would only be an issue if the engine was subjected to prolonged low or no load operation, or dribbling injectors. Some kind of situation where the...

    Biodiesel fueling station in Seattle!!

Group buy: If Dan is willing to store the fuel for us, per Dante's conversation with him, I am willing to commit to 50 gallons to start. I am heading to Bend next weekend, and plan to purchase my first tank of bio-D on the way down from Pac. NW Biodiesel. BTW I Paid $1.23 per gallon for...

    How to drive this car??

MacGyver is dead on, if it is a 1.6L TD. I had one for years. Max torque is 2800rpm. I usally ran between 2200-2800 for accelerating, unless I really needed to scoot. Then I would spin it a bit faster. If I was cruising on the flat 2000rpm was fine. But it definitely does not have the same low...

Biodiesel Question: Effect of Oxygen Content at Low RPMs?

Dante, I think you are right about the lower soot output and ccv filter being a good solution to intake goop. I really am not overly excited about diabling the EGR and CCV.

    Biodiesel fueling station in Seattle!!

That is great. I'm paying $1.28 a gallon for petro-D at the Fife flying J. So I can afford the $2.25 a gallon. Even at B50 it would only be $1.765 a gallon.

Do You Drive Out of the Way to Puchase Better Fuel?

I have been doing a little investigating into something TADC mentioned a while back. It had to do with regional fuel supply in the NW, and if it all came from the same source. I have talked to the Utah refinery manager for Flying J, a local card lock vender (member of the CFN network) that is...

    How good is this additive?

I have used redline for about fifteen years, and have good results with it. In fact at one time, back in the eighties it was the only diesel treatment that the Mercedes factory approved. That was according to the service department at Phil Smart Mercedes in Seattle. I've used Redline diesel...

    TDI Oil Filters- $5.49 each

I have bought a number of Audi and Jetta parts from importpartspec in Boise. They have great prices, service and stand behind the product. Also it is OEM or good quality german equiv. parts. I got a reman steering pump for my Quattro wagon that leaked. They not only replaced it but reimbursed...

    Has anyone has this problem?

sanjaun2, Is your car an A3 or A4? Have you had your car since new, to know that it has diminished power? I recently bought my 99' A3 Jetta with 48K mi. on it. I took the hose off the end of the intake manifold and took a couple of swipes around the EGR. I got two big globs of goop. I am...

An update on my biodiesel experience

Dante, If you remember in a post a week or two ago, I thought that Pac. N.W. Biodoesel published the cetane as 40. I found the brochure and that is what they have published. Cetane of 40 and other vendors 37. So I don't know what to think about their product. It is my understanding that...
