This was my first new car back in 2000 - my wife and I drove this car getting 50 highway mpg but as our family grew, the little Golf got less and less use. It finally came to rest in my garage last year when the diesel injection pump sprung a leak from it's innards. I bought the injection pump...
FS: Rare '96 Passat Wagon/Variant Miami, FL - Does Not Run, asking $1200
Hello TDI community,
It's time to part ways with the most fun experiment on 4 wheels I've ever had! She's been sitting for 7+ years and my wife is right - the Veggie Wagon has to go! I'd like it to go to the TDI community...
I've got nearly all the tools and enough experience to do this rebuild, but it's been over a year since I stopped running her due to minor oil smoke and low compression in cyl. 3 and the car's still sitting in the garage, so I obviously don't have the time or will to do it
At the same...
I'll be there with my brother-in-law in our MK4 Golf TDI. I hope to have the "ghetto HID" installation done by then. I'll also bring the ScanguageII. Of course it's not calibrated for fuel consumption yet because it takes us 3 weeks to burn through a tank!
The veggie wagon will still home...
Either weekend works great for me. Thanks to the Sol Atlantic crew for taking the lead on this!
If we can meet at a park that would be great but let's remember how hot it is this time of year! We'll need to make sure we've got some shade at least where the food/drink is set up. Ideally we'd...
Here's a question for those who have honed while the block is in the car - did you remove the crankshaft? I wasn't planning to, but I'm wondering how to prevent contamination of the engine with grit and metal from the honing process. I'll have the oil pan off of course but I guess maybe a shop...
Thanks guys for the tips like the advice on honing and even which hone to use as well as the reminders about the strech bolts. I'm currently waiting to clear space in my garage as I'm negotiating with my dad to get his '89 CRX out of my garage and off to the junkyard but he's so sentimental...
I just filled up at Sol Atlantic last week and met Lisa and her business partner, who's name escapes me at the moment. Anyway - really nice kids and they're really serous about selling BioD. It's obvious they've invested in high-quality equipment and I'm really pulling for them to do well...
OK folks, it's pretty clear that my 3 year WVO experiment has ended with low compression to a cylider and significant blue smoke out of the tail pipe :( Time to spend most of the $ I saved by not paying for fuel for 3 years in the Passat! At least BioDiesel prices have come down to where I can...
I'm in the Kendall area and would be very interested in a GTG. I've reached out to a couple of folks in the area as I have a VAG-COM and some mechanicl skills, but I don't have lots of free time to organize. I really couldn't host (though I have the space) a month at least though. We're...
Still interested in motor!
Z33 - I PM'ed you last week but haven't heard back on your location or logistics. I am interested in the motor and will be going out of town this coming Wed. - please let me know what you're asking for it. I can be reached at mgarriga-at-bellsouth.net.
Thanks!
I've never seen the motor consume any oil between changes at 5K intervals. I use full synthetic but halve the change interval to help offset the veggie-oil danger. Having said that, I'm very observant and I just noticed the car has started smoking with that grey oil smoke that doesn't dissipate...
I've got a mystery I'm hoping you can help figure out. I recently started seeing noticeable oil smoke when under load and I figured my vegetable oil experiment finally gummed up the piston rings and an expensive rebuild would be in order. My fears seemed to be confirmed when removing the glow...
