standard guys... do you leave it in 1st when parked? or neutral + ebrake?

I agree 100%. And it always seems to stick ON. :D As for the gear: Always in gear. Doesn't hurt to have the extra assurance it won't roll. As for getting hit and doing damage to power train, the chances are almost nil. If on an incline, always in the uphill gear. If on the flat, in the...

    Engine wiring harness removal question

I am removing the wiring harness from a 2002 Jetta (its a gasser, but I believe that is irrelevant) for a buddy of mine who is replacing the harness in the entire engine bay. My question is, where the harness goes through the firewall, on the cabin side, is there a clip / plug that all of these...

    Ignition Lock Housing removal

For anyone else referencing this thread, I was able to remove the housing from the column by taking a hammer and chisel and making a notch in the side of the bolt (the dome shaped part that's left) and spinning the bolt out with the chisel.

WTB: Intercooler - Stock, Aftermarket, or Performance

I am now the proud owner of a two piece stock intercooler  Looking for an intercooler for an '03 Jetta ALH. Stock, or if reasonably priced, a 'better' bolt on aftermarket, or perhaps even a fmic kit. Please contact with a price shipped to 17814. Also willing to meet in eastern PA...

    More limp mode fun

Not sure if the fuel shut off solenoid is on the same circuit as the n75, n18, and n239 (asv), but check fuse 34 inside the drivers door. If the fuse is blown and keeps blowing, my guess would be to look into the short CEL for the n109.

Limp mode help! Tried all of the diagnosis!

Well, found a solution. Something else that happened to the car that I thought was unrelated, ended up causing the no boost problem. Before beginning my diagnosis I had fixed a CEL for a 'N239 - Open to ground'. One wire was broken, and one was frayed. Unknown to me, this ended up being on the...

Limp mode help! Tried all of the diagnosis!

Ok folks, update. Tonight, I had a REAL mity vac and did all of the testing with that. I replaced the following vac lines: from big vac line (from vac pump to booster) to tee 1, tee 1 to tee 2, tee 2 to ASV, tee 1 to check valve, check valve to tee 1a, tee 1a to n75 valve, from tee 2 to n18...

Limp mode help! Tried all of the diagnosis!

I will inspect to see if the arm is attached. That's something I didn't check. But, shouldn't the arm still move when performing the vagcom test, even if it isn't connected?

Limp mode help! Tried all of the diagnosis!

What can I say, I guess I have big mouth. I was only using the tools that were available to me. I didn't have a mity vac available. I dont have a plethora of tools nor the budget to buy them. So I had to improvise until I could access one. With the engine off, I was able to move...

Limp mode help! Tried all of the diagnosis!

While I don't have a mity vac, I did use my 'mity mouth vac' and sucked on the vacuum line and the actuator moved, I'd guess 1/2-3/4 of an inch, as it is supposed to. I should be able to get a hold of a real mity vac tonight. But if IIRC, the line on that is about 5/16 of an inch. What can I...

Limp mode help! Tried all of the diagnosis!

Sorry to give a cop out answer, but I don't know. I just bought the car needing the repairs I listed (T/B didn't break, just needed to be changed.) The clutch was inoperable (clutch lever was worn out and wouldn't disengage, had to start the car in gear and limp it into the garage to work on...

Limp mode help! Tried all of the diagnosis!

Also want to add, brake pedal seems fine, no stiffness during braking at any time. I believe this eliminates the vacuum pump malfunctioning.

Limp mode help! Tried all of the diagnosis!

Ok, I have a '03 ALH, 345k. Just replaced the timing belt, installed a SBC stage 2 clutch, deleted the EGR, and cleaned the intake. (Tune is on the way. :D ) Trying to diagnose my cause of limp mode. Really, it does not drive with boost and then go into limp mode, it is just no boost from the...
