I know it's been a while but I found the issue some time after the last post that fixed the limp mode issue. I had a small crack in the soft air intake pipe that goes into the intake manifold right before the EGR valve. It seems like it would hold pressure when doing a static pressure test but...

I have a 2004 VW Passat that is loaded with good stuff! It was hit in the front, so the front "stuff" isn't here, but everything else is.
The car is silver as you can see. Everything is available at this point except what is listed below. I AM...
As I mentioned above, I have posted those videos!! Albeit a bit late.... It's a five video series. Sorry about the fuzzy bouncing video, if I knew my camera would have done that I would have used a better device. So, without further delay:

Well, I didn't spend a whole lot of time on it. I found another trans and threw it in. Here is the link to what I found, with pictures! :

Engine code P1550-.......something about boost pressure intermittent. I'll try the disconnected exhaust trick and I will look into the EGR valve too. I "think" the EGR is fine... but I will check and be sure.
**UPDATE**
I now have a brand spanking new turbo. That solved the metal on metal squealing that I described earlier. (I pulled apart the old turbo and had a look at the guts.... lots of wear!! This thing would have left me on the side of the road at some point.)
I also changed out the MAP...
I think the title of this thread should be changed to "Making Gold from Lead... It can happen!! I swear!! Our beloved US Government is looking into it!!"
I am going to make a video showing the difference between a used turbo on it's way out and a brand new one today. I hope to get it posted on you tube today or tomorrow. You tube user name GeekNavy.
Since mine is on it's way out I will be doing a tear down to find the fail point or points...
The ONLY ships/vessels in the Navy that are Nuclear are aircraft carriers and submarines. And those need to be refueled every 20 or 30ish years. EVERY other asset is diesel or jet fuel driven.
I don't see this as being even remotely possible in our lifetime... IF it is chemically possible...
I installed a new VNT actuator from IDparts about a week ago. I was having a problem with my old one and the new one helped immensely. HOWEVER, I am about to install a NEW turbo. The new turbo comes with a VNT already installed, so I don't need the one from idparts.
If you would like the...
I physically took mine apart some time ago. One at a time on a cookie sheet so I didn't loose any parts. Cleaned them with a toothbrush, dawn and some brake clean. Re-lubed all the parts with diesel when I put them back together. It's actually very straight forward procedure. Just unscrew...
Now imagine Homer Simpson's voice... DOHH!!!!
I'll check for the noise in the intake tomorrow. I'll get a buddy to rev the car while I listen.
As an update, I think my turbo is in self destruct mode.
Engine RPM's around or over 3k, and I can hear the sound of metal on metal and a high pitch squeal. Sounds kinda like a serpentine belt that needs replacing but I KNOW that it isn't the belt. I can only imagine that it's the turbine...
Ah, yea I forgot to mention that I also checked the amount of vacuum that my engine mounted pump produced... if I recall... it is in the 28in hg range. I checked the vacuum ball then tee'd into the system and checked vacuum with all hoses hooked up. All is good. I checked vacuum at the N75...
