Thanks for your responses!
Thank you for the follow up information. It's great to get some different points of view.
Our car is running just fine right now and we haven't needed a jump. What I realized was that my husband was sitting in the car (while it was off) listening to the radio while...
My car is occasionally having trouble starting. The battery was tested at the local VW service center and I was told it is failing.
I intend to turn this car in at the end of the buyback period (Sept. 2018, right?). So I won't have it more than 2 years.
What battery would you all recommend...
When there is water on my 2010 Sportwagon roof, like the morning after a rain, water drips into the cabin if I roll down the driver or passenger windows or when I open the hatch door. It's really annoying and seems to be a flaw. Is anyone else experiencing this or have a solution? The VW Service...

"Most of the crash sensors live inside the control unit, which is buried in the dashboard on the top of the "transmission" tunnel."
And if you look at earlier posts there's a link about the control module malfunction fault code. That page has images that show where the control...
I asked the VW mechanic and it sounds like they didn't do any work to the car, just diagnosed it. The guy told me that if they replace the airbag control module that it might reveal more problems and the insurance company wouldn't want to take that risk. I asked him if there was a way to reset...
what would you do?
Would you have the auto body shop repair the collision damages. Then I'd have to get the new computer control module installed on my own dime.
Otherwise, they are going to say this car is a total loss. Then, I'll have to look for a replacement car. I'd rather not have to do...
ok, here are the fault codes
00532 - supply low voltage
00589 - passenger side airbag igniter
01217 - side airbag igniter - driver side
01218 - passenger side airbag igniter
65535 - airbag control module malfunction
ok, so I just spoke with the auto body repair man and he said that the car needs a new computer control module. He said there are so many codes that it needs to be replaced- the accumulation of codes could arise if the car was in a number of accidents. I'm not the first owner, so I don't know...
To be more clear, the dealer said $1,600 to replace the "control panel"
and there were some other igniter codes that may or may no go away when this control panel is replaced, which could indicate future problems.
I don't know the codes myself. The auto body shop took my car to a VW dealer who gave them the information and cost.
Should I ask them for the codes and post it here for you?
My airbag light is on and I was just told that replacing the sensor component would cost $1,600 with no guarantee that the light won't come on again.
My car is in the auto body shop for repairs due to a collision and they tell me this cost on top of the other repairs will exceed the total...

I found the best mechanic for my '00 Jetta TDI right here on TDIclub.com. His user name is meganuke, real name Keith.
He is meticulous when servicing cars, fixing things that need it, even if he doesn't "have to", but because he knows it will be better for the life of the car. And his rates...
